The US Women’s National Team is marching to its own beat toward the next challenge. Having secured the 2024 Paris Olympic gold medal, the American ladies have set their sights on the next big goal: the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup. Given how the previous edition ended for the four-time world champions, winning the next one is their clear objective. Although the tournament is still nearly two years away, Alyssa Thompson has already issued a roster warning to Emma Hayes.
Already having missed out on a chance to be a part of the Paris Olympics gold triumph, the Angel City forward has clearly outlined her objective to earn her place in the next big thing that her nation will be participating in. The assertion was made after being invited to the CBS Sports Golazo’s Attacking Third pre-game show. Thompson had joined the panel alongside revered host Kate Abdo, French icon Thierry Henry, and Liga MX Femenil-based Juárez defender Janelly Farías.
During her brief appearance on the segment, Farías asked the 20-year-old about her strategy for overcoming ‘healthy’ yet tough competition to secure a spot on the World Cup roster. Interestingly, Alyssa responded, “I feel like continuing to focus on me, focusing on what I can do, on the field, and continuing to make myself feel that I have something different from all these other players that I’m kind of undeniable on the field and she can not pick me.”

Forget yourself for a moment, even the panel was stunned to hear Thompson’s response. Left totally impressed, Kate Abdo responded, “Oh my…I love that attitude,” with the great icon Thierry Henry approving the youngster’s comment, saying, “Oh wow…that’s good.” And now for us, we too are amazed to witness this unique side of Alyssa.
Honestly, we aren’t surprised; already, the attacking ranks of the USWNT are filled with names. For starters, the likes of Trinity Rodman, Mallory Swanson, and Sophia Wilson, a.k.a. the Triple Espresso, are obvious names on everyone’s mind. Then other names include Ally Sentnor, Catarina Macario, and Yazmeen Ryan. Additionally, veterans like Lynn Biyendolo also hoping to play their last gig.
So, you can imagine how challenging it will be for Hayes and her coaching staff to make a selection from such a deep talent pool. If, hopefully not, things end up going south for Thompson, we will always have another dream to pursue!
