And breathe. That’s how the golf world responded after a suspenseful Masters Tournament finally came to an end. Following multiple leaderboard shake-ups down the stretch of the four-day tournament, it was Rory McIlroy who took home the green jacket in dramatic fashion. For ardent fans, it was a treat for the eyes — and it seems soccer icon Alex Morgan felt exactly the same, as she certainly wasn’t left “disappointed” by the outcome!

The former USWNT forward has also been catching up with the Masters at Augusta National Golf Club. And why wouldn’t she? All eyeballs were on McIlroy and Bryson DeChambeau in the final round, which reminded everyone of last year’s U.S. Open thriller, where the Irishman was narrowly defeated by the American golfer.

But talk about sudden twists in sports as a late stumble from DeChambeau, 72 gripping holes, and a sensational surge by Justin Rose set the stage for a tense playoff, where Rory ultimately clinched the coveted green jacket. That saw Alex Morgan take to X and share her thoughts on the game. In a small yet emphatic note, she wrote, “Masters has not disappointed all weekend. This final round 🤯”

And to borrow McIlroy’s own words after his victory, as quoted by the PGA Tour: “A moment like that makes all the years and all the close calls worth it” — Safe to say, this edge-of-the-seat thriller must have been well worth the watch for Morgan too.

Not to mention that the Northern Ireland professional has won more than just a green jacket. With the latest achievement, it is almost as if Rory has cemented his legacy. For starters, he is only the sixth elite to have won all four major golf championships: The PGA Championship, the U.S. Open, The Open Championship, and The Masters.

Besides him, South Africa’s Gary Player and American quadruple Gene Sarazen, Ben Hogan, Jack Nicklaus, and Tiger Woods are the only five golfers who have managed to achieve this record. Additionally, with Sunday’s win, McIlroy also became the first one to secure a career Grand Slam at a Masters tournament, even though it was his 17th attempt to clinch a green jacket.

So it’s only natural that even a soccer fanatic like Morgan would find herself hooked on the Masters. However, that’s not all that has been keeping the 4x World Cup winner busy. Since hanging up her boots last year, a lot has transpired in the iconic striker’s life — most notably, the birth of her second child with husband Servando Carrasco, as the couple welcomed their son, Enzo.

What’s your perspective on:

Did Rory McIlroy's win at the Masters cement his legacy as an all-time great?

Have an interesting take?

With her current commitments, including guest appearances in the Unrivaled League and the Tomorrow’s Golf League (TGL) — a golf league created by TMRW Sports — on hold, it’s no surprise that she had time to tune into the Masters. However, her involvement in one particular sport might have left a bitter taste in her mouth.

Alex Morgan lost in her March Madness wager!

Earlier, the 35-year-old revealed her bracket picks for the recently concluded 2025 NCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament. In her Final Four predictions, she placed her bets on USC to eliminate Angel Reese’s LSU in the Spokane Region clash, while South Carolina was her favorite to emerge from Regional 2 in Birmingham. Morgan also had Ohio State advancing from Regional 3. Of those teams, the former Tottenham star predicted South Carolina would make it all the way to the championship game — only to fall short against USC in the final.

Proud of her picks, Alex even shared her bracket on her Instagram story with the caption: “Who ya got?! 🙌🙌.” But as fate would have it, her predictions didn’t age well. The actual Final Four featured South Carolina, UConn, Texas, and debutants UCLA. In the end, the Gamecocks couldn’t defend their crown against the UConn Huskies they suffered a 59-82 defeat in the title game.
