Megan Rapinoe and Sue Bird are quite the power couple in sports. They briefly met during the Rion Olympics in 2016. However, the soccer player states that their meeting was a little awkward. The pair started dating a year later and have not looked back since.
But Bird had to wait three years before her partner proposed. However, it was quite a romantic setup, and by doing so, Megan established the parameter for a perfect proposal.

Why did Sue Bird interrupt Megan Rapinoe in the middle of the proposal?
The couple went on a vacation to celebrate Bird’s birthday. Since the point guard had won her fourth WNBA title that year, they wanted to celebrate it somewhere special. So the couple decided to head to Antigua, joined by friends.
Rapinoe did not initially plan to make a destination proposal when they headed off for the vacation. However, one afternoon when they were lazing around in the pool, the soccer player decided to seize the moment and pop the question.
However, Bird knew something was up the moment she saw her approaching. Narrating the incident during an interview, she said, “I could see the look in her eye.” Then she added, “And immediately I realized what was happening.”

But Sue’s eyes scanned the outfit Rapinoe was donning at the moment. And something put her off immediately. But at that point, they had reached an understanding wherein they could ask each other to put a halt to an activity the other person disliked.
Reflecting what she said back then, Bird continued, “And I look at her and I go, ‘Take that f****** bucket hat off!’ “ Megan obliged and took off the hat before kneeling and proposing to her by the pool.

Rapinoe is quite the romantic at heart. However, she does not shy away from speaking up on issues that need addressing. But it is a trait that the couple has in common. Recently, the football player received the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the country’s highest civilian honor.
And she visited the White House for the ceremony donning a white suit jacket. And she had the initials “BG” embroidered on the lapel. In doing so, she showed her support and solidarity for Brittney Griner, the basketball star detained over five months back in Russia.
