The career growth scale of Shaun White and Tony Hawk is quite similar. Both attained widespread success when they were young by oozing charisma and showcasing their talents. Their vast growing fan-following attracted a lot of companies with endorsements and sponsorship deals. Speaking of which, White once revealed how he rejected many such offers, simply because he did not want them.

Coming from a humble background, Shaun talked about the importance of sticking to his roots while understanding what is right and what is wrong. That sheer understanding of life is the reason he is adored around the world.

Shaun White rejects massive offers

Similar to skateboarding legend Tony Hawk, Shaun received a lot of offers when he was young. Being able in both skateboarding and snowboarding, White exhibited brilliance in two extreme sports with ease. His dominance in both these events spoke of his unique talent, which made him a fan favorite, also making him a prospect for many companies to engage in endorsement deals with. However, White was not a fan of it. In a past interview, White spoke about the reason for rejecting one too many deals.

“You know I have my roots to pull from and I appreciate everything now. So when I turned down some massive deals, I’m like ‘wow. Never in my dreams, I would have imagined that I would be, you know just pushing these massive offers aside.’ But’s that the true point I think I have reached in my career where I am excited that I have that opportunity to say no to stuff,” said White.

Growing up, White’s mother was a server while his father worked at a utility company. However, his snowboarding career took him to unprecedented heights, thereby helping him attain financial stability. Acknowledging the offers put in front of him, White chose to remain humble and focus on his career, graciously rejecting the deals.

White’s famous endorsements

After winning his first Olympic medal for the half-pipe event, he signed a ten-year deal with Burton- a snowboard manufacturing company, as he thought it would help him in the future. White also signed other smart deals with companies like Oakley, Target, Verizon, and many more.

Currently, White is preparing for his fifth Olympic appearance, aiming for a record 4th Olympic medal. However, he is yet to make it past the qualifications. Do you think Shaun White will script history in Beijing next year?
