Being an Olympic champion has its perks, but also has its drawbacks. Young Olympian Chl0e Kim faced the wrath of fame, after her triumph at the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics. The athlete spoke about having trouble dealing with the constant stares and attention after she created history.

Notably, she faced such adversities in her life back then that she considered taking a break from the sport. Recently, she opened up on the same.

Chloe Kim opens up

The talented athlete will be traveling to the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics, looking to win her second gold medal. However, things were not easy for her after her previous success. Notably, she talked about an instance of going to a restaurant and feeling disgusted with herself.

The attention she attracted was unprecedented and hence, she took time to adjust to it. She talked about the struggles she faced then after her resounding success.

“I just wanted a day where I was left alone. And it’s impossible. I hated life. I was so burnt out, I just couldn’t do it anymore. I felt a little lost. I was in a pretty low, dark place,” said Kim.

Being an Olympic champion or even just a performer can often affect one’s mental health. Kim achieved incredible success at a very young age, but with accolade came immense pressure and unwanted attention. She revealed how all of it even made her throw her gold medal in the trash can once.

Simone Biles faced the same issue

A similar issue was highlighted at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Simone Biles withdrew from the gymnastics competition citing mental health concerns. Notably, she won four gold medals at the 2016 Rio Olympics while also winning many World Championship medals.

Hence, the expectation from her at the mega-quadrennial games was immense. However, she prioritized her mental health over Olympic glory and stepped down from the games. Currently, Biles is on a sabbatical, taking a break from gymnastics.

With Kim facing similar struggles, she is back on the board looking to snowboard her way to glory n in China. Ever since she was a kid, she has raised eyebrows at her terrific performances in various events. Having recovered from her previous struggles and still learning as she grows, the talented snowboarder will once again be the favorite to win the competition at the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics.
