The world of snowboarding won’t see the legendary Shaun White competing in half-pipe competitions. He is arguably the greatest snowboarder in the world, with three Olympic gold medals and numerous other medals. Back before the Olympics was about to begin, he took a decision to retire from the sport as he looked forward to the future. Thus, his last event was viewed by his fans and his family members; not by his mother, though.
White revealed in a recent interview about his mother leaving home while not being able to watch her son’s performance. White jokingly said she went out of the house, not being able to watch her son perform.

His mother couldn’t watch him compete
The interview talked about not being able to watch while White is performing his tricks. She, like everyone else, wanted him to not fall and perform well. Thus, White revealed that his mother drove through the neighborhood, opting not to see her son compete at his last Olympics. It was just a hilarious conversation as Kate Snow revealed how moms can freak out while watching their children do dangerous stunts.
“My mom was driving around the neighborhood saying ‘I don’t wanna watch.’ Yeah. She left. It was a huge party and she just left.”

Like his mother thought, White failed to win a medal in his final Olympic run and finished fourth. It was an end of an era for the snowboarder who received tremendous applause on his way down the slope.

What would have been a fairytale ending did not prove to be right. He put in a stunning second run and scored 85 points to bring him in close contention to win the event. Ayumu Hirano won the gold medal, followed by Scotty James, for silver. Jan Scherrer from Switzerland took home the bronze. But White received a standing ovation, and he spoke about what he felt after the event.
“A lot of emotions are hitting me right now — the cheering from the crowd, some kind words from my fellow competitors at the bottom. I’m so happy. Snowboarding, thank you. It’s been the love of my life,” said an emotional Shaun White.
It’s just a brilliant career from start to finish. Ever since he made his debut, White dominated the X Games competitions in both snowboarding and skateboarding. Hence, the extreme sports athlete is an influential personality in the world of extreme sports.
