Nina Dobrev Who’s Now Dating Shaun White, Recalls Relationship Drama During ‘The Vampire Diaries’

Three-time Olympic snowboarding champion Shaun White has been dating actor Nina Dobrev for about three years now. The ‘Degrassi’ star made their relationship Instagram official in May of 2020. Since then, we’ve seen them together pretty much everywhere.

But before their whirlwind romance became a steadily progressing relationship that many envy, Dobrev had to go through a lot of relationship drama. Especially when she secured the role of Elena Gilbert in the ‘Vampire Diaries’ series.

Appearing on a recent episode of ‘Gossip Girl’ alum Jessica Szohr’s podcast, XOXO, Nina Dobrev talked about all the complications her role brought in her personal life. It seems like both, Dobrev, and her then-boyfriend auditioned for the hit TV series, but only she managed to secure the role.

“They were gonna choose him [for the role of Damon Salvatore],” the actor shared. “They ended up not choosing him, but I got cast. And then it got awkward.” Shortly after she was cast as Elena Gilbert, their relationship fell apart. “We broke up,” she continued.

Ultimately, the showrunners cast Ian Somerhalder for the role of Damon Salvatore and Paul Wesley for Stefan Salvatore. The complications piled on as Dobrev ended up dating Somerhalder from 2010 to 2013. Their relationship became a hot topic for fans and became one of the most talked-about romances.

Their break up in 2013 came with no official reason from the two parties. But despite having to play lovers even after the split, the two managed to maintain a friendship.

Ever since the dating news of the Olympian-actor duo broke out, we have seen them all over social media, sharing sweet moments and supportive messages. From their hilarious birthday celebrations to goofy Halloween costumes, they have probably charmed every fan of theirs.

When Shaun White competed at the Beijing Olympics and subsequently retired, Nina Dobrev posted a heartfelt message on Instagram and even threw him a “Flying Tomato” themed retirement party. They made their red-carpet debut as a couple this year at the premiere of Top Gun: Maverick and made headlines.

White has accompanied Dobrev to filming sets in Greece, and we have spotted the couple vacationing together in Costa Rica, France, hitting up Coachella and the F1 Races in Milano. They were even in the audience at UFC 276. Really, they are the couple goals of the decade.
