The year 2020 was not the best for the US Skiing Legend, Mikaela Shiffrin. The athlete suffered an unbearable loss as her father, Jeff Shiffrin, passed away from a traumatic head injury. Recently, Shiffrin opened up about her father’s death. The daddy’s girl revealed that she wanted to quit skiing and move as far away from it as possible. Particularly because her father handled everything related to the sport and was there to support her at every event.
The tragic day itself is very painful in Mikaela’s memory. However, she has bravely penned down a heart-touching tribute for her father, narrating all the memories she made with him.

Mikaela Shiffrin recalls the tragic day she lost her father

The Shiffrin family has not revealed the details of Jeff Shiffrin’s death. However, it is reported that he suffered from a traumatic head injury, which caused him to lose his life at 65 years.

In a recent piece, Mikaela has opened up about the day she lost her father. She revealed that she was actually in Italy with her mom when the accident took place.

 

“I went into his closet and I just buried my face in his clothes. That was the first thing I did when I got home after my dad died. I stuffed myself in his shirts and I breathed in deep and I thought of him and sobbed,” wrote down the Olympic champion.

In her tribute to her father, “Perhaps Love”, Shiffrin has penned down an emotional narration of all the time she spent with her beloved father and how losing him tore apart her world.

Perhaps Love gives us a glimpse of beautiful memories that Mikaela shared with her father. Jeff Shiffrin was not only her father and guide but also her best friend. He loved to carry a camera with him to capture Mikaela performing at various events and championships.

“There’s a certain smell that everyone has, you know? It’s what you smell when they give you a big hug. It’s in their favorite sweatshirts, embedded in the fibers forever. You can’t wash it out. It’s eternal. It’s them.”
