According to NZ Herald, on Tuesday 22nd August, a tragic accident unfolded at the Mt Hutt skiing resort. A skier was moving down the slope when he got imbalanced and slid through the arena for about 300 meters. As he moved down the slope, he got seriously injured and ended up having some brutal lesions. In the wake of this, he required immediate medical attention. Fortunately, there was a rescue helicopter already present at that time in the ski field. The helicopter was in the process of a rescue operation for another incident at the same resort when the call for help was raised.
According to Simon Duncan, the GM of the helicopter service said that the skier suffered a severe back injury after a slide of 300 meters in icy conditions. Another helicopter was dispatched to the resort to collect the other two patients who had suffered a broken leg and all of them were airlifted to the hospital for treatment. The Mt Hutt spokesperson confirmed the same and added that all three incidents occurred during sliding or riding. One accident happened at the rail and the other at an off-piste area of the resort. The weather condition at the resort was good with a warm temperature and 115m-210m snow.
