Mikaela Shiffrin, the alpine skiing legend is navigating a new slope—recovery from a recent surgery! She hinted in a recent interview that she may not participate again this season. But as fans have come to expect, Shiffrin is approaching this obstacle with her characteristic grace and determination.
Mikaela posted a video from the hospital after the operation on Thursday. In her humorous tone, she said it was to wash out, stitch, and drain “a little cavity deeper than the wound tract that was filled with old hematoma and wasn’t properly draining.”
In a recent interview, the American superstar shared a glimpse into her recovery process, showcasing her trademark humor and resilience even in the face of adversity. “I’m feeling pretty good, actually,” Shiffrin shared, “I’m not in a ton of pain, which is great.” Even in the midst of recovery, Shiffrin’s positive attitude shines through.

As the alpine skiing superstar is currently recovering at her home in Colorado. She said she is not feeling much pain and is able to walk slowly and climb stairs. But it’s not just her physical recovery that’s impressive. Shiffrin’s humor and ability to find positivity in challenging situations are equally remarkable.
“I had a little coughing fit before you guys all came over, and that was not good. That did not feel good. Ouch. I can only imagine how much coughing hurts right now,” she admitted with a laugh to the journalists. This anecdote perfectly encapsulates Shiffrin’s spirit. Even while dealing with the discomfort of recovery, she maintains a positive outlook and finds humor in the situation.

The moment Shiffrin caught an edge on a right-hand turn and lost control of her skis, she was mere seconds away from her historic 100th World Cup win.
The 29-year-old has been sidelined due to her injury, in a heavy fall during the Killington giant slalom at the end of November. She underwent an unplanned surgery almost two weeks later, on 12 December. She hit one gate and tumbled through another before sliding into the catch fencing. Following the medical emergency, she was taken from the hill on a sled and rushed to hospital.

Initially, the doctors cleaned her wound and gave her a wound vacuum to drain the fluid. The fluid was not draining properly and she felt unwell. Shiffrin was taken to the hospital last Thursday and underwent surgery to clear the fluid and help repair a torn muscle near her pelvis.

Giving her fans the needed hope, Shiffrin tweeted “Now I’m tube free!” offering a glimpse into her recovery journey and demonstrating her commitment to sharing her experiences with her supporters.
While the timeline for her return to competition remains uncertain, Shiffrin’s focus remains on her recovery. This setback, while undoubtedly difficult, will undoubtedly serve as another opportunity for growth and personal development for our champion skier.
