Lindsey Vonn and Mikaela Shiffrin are two of America’s finest alpine skiers, and picking the ultimate speedster between them is no easy task. Shiffrin holds a record 97 World Cup race wins, while Vonn is not far behind with 82 victories. Both athletes have also excelled across multiple skiing disciplines and, coincidentally, grew up in Colorado. But here’s the exciting part—there’s a chance these two legends might clash again at the 2024-2025 World Alpine Skiing Championships.

Yes, if Lindsey Vonn (seen training in New Zealand) decides to return back to the sport this season, she’ll have to face the 5x world champion Mikaela Shiffrin, who on the other hand, is wishing well for her compatriot’s return. Speaking at the Atomic Media Day recently, Mikaela Shiffrin reacted to Lindsey Vonn’s alpine skiing comeback. She said, “I only heard about this really recently, so I don’t actually have too much to say.”

But, the speculative air around the news did not stop Mikaela Shiffrin from wishing her well. Shiffrin added, “I would just say good luck, I mean, I wish her the best” with a shoulder shrug and a smile. Well, as Shiffrin had also added, she still has very little information on the topic, but she’s intrigued as to how many returns are in the pipeline this season.

There’s Marcel Hirscher, Shiffrin herself, and now possibly Lindsey Vonn too. But, Shiffrin saw the positive in it, as she added how Lindsey Vonn’s return is a sign that she’s perhaps not suffering anymore and that her body is okay, per Le Dauphine. Also, Shiffrin wasn’t the only one, even Sofia Goggia reacted to rumors saying she might see Vonn get back to the business.

Goggia said she doesn’t know whether the piece of news is true or not. She even added that while Lindsey Vonn’s return remains a “surprising situation” for them all, the fact that she can ski now indicates that Vonn is healthy. But still, Goggia was curious to see what Vonn’s next step would be. However, all these speculations went afloat right after Lindsey Von posted her recent video, which many deciphered as a cryptic indication of her return.

On October 10, World Mental Health Day, Lindsey Vonn added a post on her Instagram that fanned the rumor flames. Earlier, it was limited to the fact that she was seen training in New Zealand. But after Vonn added a video of her skiing down the slope, the comment section flooded with questions and best wishes.

Lindsey Vonn captioned her skiing video, “What makes me happy?…skiing!⛷️❤️ Thankful to be back on the mountain again where I feel the most inner peace and joy. I am not defined by skiing, I am simply a woman that loves to ski. I know the difference now. I don’t need skiing to make me happy but my love for it will never go away.”

This post highlighted her physical transformation too. After a string of unfortunate injuries all along her career and a recent knee replacement surgery this year, Lindsey Vonn was finally back to the ‘basics.’ But given that she gets back this season, Vonn may have a higher chance at outperforming Mikaela Shiffrin, who has decided to drop downhill races this season. Yes, you heard that!

Shiffrin who is also making a comeback post her accident in a downhill race earlier this year, has decided to go ahead in a reduced number of categories. And she has decided to drop downhill because it takes too much time to train for and do justice to, per Megan Harrod, her representative. Thus, give Vonn competes in all disciplines, she has more races to utilize than Shiffrin, or perhaps even surpass her win score. What do you think? Let us know below.
