Every athlete performs differently throughout their career. While most times their performances are in accordance with expectations from others, sometimes they exceed these expectations. These instances become the highlights of their careers. Lindsey Vonn too experienced such instance in 2010.

Vonn retired from alpine skiing in February 2019. However, she still enjoys the limelight to this day as one of the most decorated alpine skiers in US history. However, like most athletes, she, too, has her favorite moments in the sports.
According to Lindsey, her most successful year was back in 2010. And it still holds a distinct space in her heart.
Why does Vonn consider 2010 her best year?
For the four-time Olympian, the year marked a time of changes. She was rising the ranks and in popularity due to her contributions to the sport. Another reason for her consideration was because the year marked her first and only Olympics gold at the Vancouver Winter Games.

Speaking about it, Vonn said, “For sure, 2010 was the best year I’ve ever had. It couldn’t have gone any better for me…Even if I just won the Olympic gold medal, that would have made it the best year of my career and the best day of my life, period,” the alpine skier added.
At the meet, she secured the gold in the downhill event. Additionally, Lindsey also finished third in the super-G. She would win another bronze in the downhill at the Pyeongchang 2018. However, the 2010 Games would remain the highlight of her career because Vonn established herself as a gifted skier during this year. A good portion of her popularity is because she became the first US woman to win the downhill event at the Olympics.
The three-time Olympic medalist won various events in prominent meets in the past. This includes numerous events at previous FIS World Cups. However, winning gold in an Olympic event has its joy.
Other significant achievements of Lindsey Vonn in 2010
She also won some of her most prominent events at other meets during that season. It includes Lindsey securing first place in the overall, combined, downhill, and super-G events at the 2010 FIS Alpine Ski World Cup.
Doing justice to the Championships, the skier said, “Winning the World Cup races and the overall title just topped it off.”

Athletes performing better in the Games are likelier to garner more attention and publicity than those who perform better at the Championships. However, athletes perform similarly throughout a season. Therefore, it is Vonn’s overall feats during that year that secured her name among the list of prominent athletes in alpine skiing.
