However, given the relationship they shared, Mikaela is yet to come to terms with her father’s untimely demise. Ahead of the Beijing Winter Olympics, Shiffrin now opens on her first mega games without her father.
Mikaela Shiffrin speaks about her father’s death
Jeff Shiffrin, 65, succumbed to a head injury and passed away unexpectedly last year. Given the sudden loss she bore, understandably, she found it difficult to regain her focus for skiing. She recently talked about the same, as she gears up for the Winter Games next month.
“It’s taken so long just to get to this point. I’m not even close to being done grieving, but every day I feel that spark and motivation returning. It’s like healing from an injury. You get to the point where you can race again, but it still hurts sometimes,” said Shiffrin.

Despite everything, the talented skier remains motivated to showcase her talents out there. She still loves skiing, and she wants to be the best in business. Loving her sport every time she wakes up, Shiffrin took some time to gain perspective, accept the harsh realities of life and get back to work.
“I’ve learned you have to live your life and do the things you like and be who you are. I’m getting my fire back … With every day that passes, I’m able to put more energy back into skiing,” said Shiffrin.

With all the preparations in place, Shiffrin hopes to become a three-time gold medalist at the Beijing Olympics. She is one of the best skiers out there and winning more medals would help her to achieve everything she wanted. With the pandemic bringing out a new venue for the downhill alpine skiing race, Shiffrin is excited to compete in the event.
