Lindsey Vonn is a legendary alpine ski racer. Overall, she won four World Cup championships, out of which three were consecutive. Vonn has won several awards for her outstanding performances in recent years. In 2010 she won the Laureus sportswoman of the year award as well as the United States Olympic committee’s sportswoman of the year award. However, her journey was not so easy.

She announced her retirement from the sport after a medal-winning performance at the World Championships in Sweden. Ever since her retirement, she has moved on to new endeavors in life. Lindsey wrote an autobiography titled ‘Rise: My Story.’ The book was published on January 11, 2022. The book based on her life revealed a lot of untold stories about her as well as disclosed a lot of her bold decisions.
Lindsey Vonn’s incredible story
Lindsey Vonn gave a lot of insight into life in her new book. While promoting her new book she gave an interview Washington Post where she answered questions about her life. Speaking about how her enormous commitment to the sport affected her friendships and social life in the early stages of her life she said,” It took a toll on other areas of my life. You know, I think, to achieve success in anything, you have to make sacrifices. And so I didn’t have many friends. I had maybe two or three, and I still have those two or three today.”
Sharing snaps of her uninteresting and unsocial childhood the global skiing icon said,” I didn’t have much of a social life. I was a pretty big nerd. I had braces and a perm, and you know, bangs all at the same time. So that didn’t help my cause. ” She further described how it was very difficult to manage studies and sports as a seventeen-year-old.

Even though it was very hard to manage her education while traveling, she figured it out along the way. She believed that all the sacrifices that she made were worth it. Additionally, Lindsey credited her family for sacrificing a lot to support her skiing career.
How did Lindsey Vonn get into the sport of skiing?

In her book, Lindsey narrated how she was only 2 and a half years old when her father put her on skis. That’s where her journey began. She expressed how she loved to ski ever since that moment. Describing the moment she wanted to become an Olympic champion she said,” When I was nine years old, I met Picabo Street at an autograph signing in a ski shop in Minnesota, and ever since then, I told my dad I want to be an Olympic champion.”
Her dad then created a ten-year plan for her. According to her, she was always driven to work hard and become an Olympic champion. “He just hunkered down, and we found a way to get there,” Vonn said describing her dad’s role in her success.
