For winter sports fans, it’s going to be a heated last weekend of January. The world’s top freestyle skiers and snowboarders will convene at the Buttermilk Mountain in Colorado for the Winter X Games Aspen 2025 from January 23 to 25 in a bid to showcase their skills in all its glory. Among the entrants, 2x Olympic gold medalist Eileen Gu will undoubtedly be one of the main attractions of the 24th edition of the prestigious tournament.
The 21-year-old skiing sensation will be defending her SuperPipe gold medal from last year at the Winter X Games 2025. But it isn’t going to be a walk in the park for the Chinese athlete at the 24th edition of the event. Instead, she will have to face stiff competition from the likes of Aspen-native Hanna Faulhaber, who missed the 2024 edition because of an injury. It’s safe to say that the thriller that’s incoming will be jaw-dropping. But where to stay updated with all the action?

Making things a little saddening for the fans, Eileen Gu will not be among the skiers on the start line on the opening day of the 2025 Winter X Games. Instead, her maiden run on the Buttermilk Mountain will happen on the second day of the tournament (January 24) at the Women’s Ski Street Style. The Street Style is the newest event to be added to the Winter X Games and is influenced heavily by urban skiing. Street Style will easily be one of the most anticipated events, and watching Eileen in it for the first time will be an experience to remember for the fans. However, skiing connoisseurs’ eyes will be on the race later that day: the Women’s Ski SuperPipe. Overcoming challenges to win gold at the event last year, Gu will want to keep the hardware to herself this time as well. What are the odds, then?
The SuperPipe is one of the fiercest events in the skiing universe, and Gu’s status as a specialist in that is beyond reproach. Eileen has been in incredible form since February 2024 and has regularly found herself on the top of the podium at Cardrona, Copper, Secret Garden, and the iconic Laax. The reigning champ of the event will then move on to the Women’s Ski Big Air on Friday, in hopes of making it clear that the SuperPipe isn’t all she’s good at.
Gu will finish off the Winter X Games Aspen 2025 with the Women’s Ski Slopestyle on Saturday, January 25. Across the events, she will be taking on some scintillating opponents, including the 2022 Breakthrough Skier of the Year – Newschoolers Award Bella Bacon, Winter Youth Olympics silver medalist Fanghui Li, the 2024 Winter X Games Aspen SuperPipe silver medalist Zoe Atkin, and 6x X Games gold medalist Tess Ledeux. It’s almost impossible to wait to see if Gu can maintain her absolute dominance under such thunderous competition, isn’t it? But how or where to watch her dishing out her best?
