Mikaela Shiffrin is undoubtedly a modern-day legend of skiing. Overshadowing the daunting figure of Lindsey Vonn, Shiffrin has gone on to notch up a record number of wins already. Now, she is eyeing for history to be made. Having won 98 races, Shiffrin also got hold of her 99th victory as she won the race at Gurgl, Austria. En route, she also managed to get the better of Camille Rast and Lara Colturi.
Now, in her quest for the coveted 100th World Cup victory, Shiffrin is traveling to North America. With her next race scheduled to take place in Killington, Vermont, there is a good chance that Shiffrin might reach the milestone in her home country. In the coming weekend, Vermont will be hosting both the slalom and a giant slalom.
With the hype regarding her 100th victory skyrocketing for real, Mikaela Shiffrin is surely feeling the jitters. Speaking about her opportunity to become immortal in the realm of Alpine skiing, Shiffrin sounds cautious. She stated that while the victory was very much on the cards, there were a lot of other factors too that contributed to the outcome of a race.

Talking to the Associated Press, Shiffrin reflected on the hurdles that she faced while racing. The champion athlete stated, “From the outside, it looks easy, or it looks like it’s supposed to happen this way. But it takes, like even today, so much energy to bring out my top skiing, so it’s certainly not easy.” She then went on to double down on the fact that despite feeling the pressure, she will try hard not to yield. “I guess there is a bit of pressure around it, but I’ll try to ignore that,” said Shiffrin.

However, the skiing legend seems to be taking her quest neutrally. While she would be overjoyed to register her 100th victory in front of her home crowd, even if she fails, Shiffrin will have no regrets. Speaking of regrets, her not being able to win in front of her home crowd might not be as much of a regret as what she experienced after missing out on a Taylor Swift reference.

Reflecting on her faux pax, Shiffrin took to her X account and wrote, “I answered a Q after the race today about celebration and my answer was so boring… Like ‘blah blah, don’t have time, blah, strength, blahhhh driving to the airport…’” But this was not exactly how she was planning to return to the airport, driving for three hours.

Expressing her regret for mentioning it earlier, Shiffrin finally revealed her plans. She said, “Should have said how I (was) actually planning to have a 3h @taylorswift13 concert the whole drive,” Well, this surely goes on to show how big a fan Shiffrin is of Taylor Swift. Meanwhile, if she can really rack up the 100th win at Vermont, it will be no surprise if Shiffrin once again makes some Taylor Swift references to mark her celebration.
