The battle for the world cup standings between world number one Mikaela Shiffrin and the Beijing Winter Olympics gold medalist Petra Vlhova is still on. So far, their performance in the FIS Ski World Cup has brought mixed results for them both. While Mikaela came second in the very first super-G event, Petra has had a victory in the giant slalom.
Mikaela Shiffrin and Petra Vlhova started the world cup with the same number of points. However, the American skier has successfully carried a lead over her Slovakian rival since the first race. As of now, before the final four races begin, there is a 56 points difference between Mikaela and Petra.

Mikaela Shiffrin’s schedule for the world cup finals
After racing in Switzerland and Sweden, now the FIS Ski World Cup moves to France. Overall, there’ll be four races in the finals of the FIS Ski World Cup, including all four categories downhill, super-G, giant slalom, and slalom.

While saving her world number position will be a priority for Mikaela, she would also eye for her fourth world cup title. This world cup victory would place her in the league of fellow American ski legend, Lindsey Vonn.

The finals will begin from March 16 Wednesday, and will go on till March 20 Sunday. The first event, men’s downhill race will start at 5.00 am, while women’s downhill race will begin at 6.30 am. You can live stream all the races at Peacock.
Fight for the top spot
On Saturday, Mikaela Shiffrin and Petra Vlhova’s quest to be at the top received a huge setback when they both missed the podium in the giant slalom race. While they were busy trying to win some much needed world cup points, Austrian skier Katharina Liensberger claimed the victory for herself.

After a tough few days at Beijing Winter Olympics, Mikaela Shiffrin is finally getting some form back in FIS Ski World Cup. However, if she has to defend her world number one ranking, she’ll have to bring forth her A-game in the final four races.
