Usually, the sports are left to athletes. However, there are always exceptions to every rule. Some famous people also indulge in a particular sport sometimes. And when they do, they surely make headlines. Lil Wayne similarly created quite a stir recently. He channeled his inner Tony Hawk and showed off some of his skateboarding moves.
Lucky for all his fans, his skateboarding skills were caught on camera for all the world to witness. These are good times we are living in! While it might come as a surprise to many, Lil Wayne is not new to the skateboarding scene. He is somewhat, of a veteran.
Lil Wayne and his love for skateboarding

Lil Wayne, real name Dwayne Michael Carter Jr., was born in New Orleans, Louisiana. He started rapping at the age of 8 and has been creating music ever since, although, that has not been the only passion in his life. Wayne also loves to skate and has been skateboarding since the year 2010, after he left Rikers Island. The icon started practicing at parks and even formed his own skate team, called SQVAD UP.

In a video that he posted on Instagram, Wayne is seen performing many tricks on his skateboard. His excitement and adoration for the sport clearly shine through. He is seen performing cool tricks such as a kick turn on a vert ramp at a skatepark. He then added a front side 180 and a pop shuvit, to his bag of tricks.

While the world knows Lil Wayne as a Grammy-winning hip-hop artist and rapper, few know of his love for the sporting world. Those in the skating community, however, know him as an avid skater as well. Wayne’s love for skateboarding, in fact, has made him great friends with skating legends such as pro skater Torey Pudwill. Wayne also once opened a private skate park in his Miami home for a session with Pudwill.
Hip-Hop artist turned pro skater

Last year, sometime in December 2022, Wayne was knighted as a pro skater by his friends and loved ones. The ceremony was completed by gifting Wayne a custom skateboard. The board was given to him by his videographer for Young Money Skate, Phil Lopez. Professional skaters, Torey Pudwill, Keelan Dadd, and Yosef Ratleff were also present when Lopez gave this special gift to Wayne. Pudwell, the owner of the company Thank You Skateboards, helped Lopez in the production of the custom-made skateboards.

The board was designed by RX Philly. The skateboard was black in color and included a photo of Wayne from his childhood and some of his favorite rap lyrics. It was a perfect gift for someone so deeply invested in the sport. In a post he shared on Instagram, Wayne is so happy his smile goes from eye to eye. It is clear that skateboarding is something Wayne enjoys immensely.
