Tony Hawk’s legendary skateboarding journey hasn’t just been about flips and tricks—it’s been about heart, too. At 56, the skating icon keeps on prepping a legacy just not only in the field that he has changed but also in the lives that he impacted. The Skatepark Project, the Birdman’s non-profit, has put in millions of dollars towards building safe, public spaces for skateboarding across the country. His latest endeavor, however, is focused solely on raising funds for those who have been affected by the wildfires in Los Angeles.

But before getting into that, two huge fires have ravaged the LA area this year alone and have claimed at least 10,000 homes and structures until January 9. People’s homes have been destroyed, families evicted and communities left struggling to recover. But as the smoke rises, so do the heroes. Celebrities and normal citizens have come forward to help, and Tony Hawk? Oh, he’s leading the charge in true Birdman style. In a heartfelt move, Tony’s Birdhouse brand has made a game-changing announcement for the skateboarding community hit by the flames, proving once again that Hawk isn’t just about soaring on ramps—he’s about lifting others up when they need it most.

Tony Hawk hopped onto his Instagram stories on January 22, shining a light on a heartfelt post by SAPASI, a collaborative effort with his iconic brand, Birdhouse. The post, brimming with emotion, read, “Our hearts remain heavy following the recent destruction that’s taken place and for the many who’ve been impacted by the Palisades and Eaton Fires. Although we recognize skateboards are far from essential, we believe that having a positive outlet during these difficult times is important.”

The post continued, “In partnership with Birdhouse, we will be giving away complete skateboards and hoodies to youth affected by these tragedies. LA is a place of resilience, and we are honored to call it home. We salute all first responders for their ongoing heroics, along with the countless Angelenos who’ve stepped up in this time of need.” It’s classic Hawk—using his platform to spread hope and sprinkle a bit of joy where it’s desperately needed.

Birdhouse Projects was started in 1992 by Tony Hawk and Per Welinder when skateboarding was struggling. Their mission? To cultivate the game they cherished with a team that had respect, integrity, and unparalleled ability. Years later, Birdhouse is still flying high and today it is recognized as one of the kings of the skateboarding kingdom.

Starting from such riders as Jeremy Klein and Andrew Reynolds up to now, Birdhouse is associated with true skateboarding legends. They’ve taken over tours, released videos such as The End, and even captured the digital sidewalks in Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater. From magazine covers, viral clips, and Thrasher’s King of the Road wins Birdhouse is still a living testament to skateboarding genius. And just like that, Tony Hawk continues to help the community.

Tony Hawk continues to help!

Tony Hawk’s latest move isn’t just a skateboarding trick, he’s helping raise money for the LA wildfires. As it is a well-known fact that numerous stars have contributed their efforts to support the victims of the fires, Hawk chose to add his own twist to charity. Through Cameo, Hawk has already managed to collect over $15,000 for the World Central Kitchen, a non-profit organization that is working hard to feed the displaced Angelenos. Videos on Cameo are $99 each and Hawk, given his speed, has been churning out heartfelt messages non-stop. As he posted on Instagram, “Hey everyone, I just wanted to say thank you for all of the Cameo requests as we raise money for World Central Kitchen and their relief efforts to those affected in the fires in Los Angeles.”

Tony is making his Cameos even more unique now due to a great collaboration with Letz Chat, which translates his videos to any language. Hawk jokingly admitted, “I’m not multilingual, but through their magic, they can provide my voice in any language.” Well, now fans from all over the world can receive a message from the legend himself in Spanish, French, Italian, and more! It has been great, and Tony isn’t through with this fundraiser yet; he will continue until the end of the month.

At the top of his Cameo page, there is a banner that informs about the cause, which means that every video is more than just a shout-out. All messages, be it pep talk or birthday wishes, will have, as the page reads, Tony Hawk’s “signature wit and charm”. It’s the perfect way to get some personalized skateboarding advice or surprise a friend—because no request is too big or small for this legendary boarder and the cause he is supporting.
