Tony Hawk, the epitome of skateboarding excellence, continues to captivate his fans even after his retirement. His influence in the sport is so profound that younger generations still strive to replicate his famous tricks like the 720 and 900. Despite the passage of time, some of Hawk’s trick records were broken after decades.

One such record was the iconic 900-trick record, which Hawk flawlessly executed during the 1999 X Games, leaving an indelible mark on skateboarding history. However, 21 years later, in 2020, an 11-year-old prodigy shattered this record. Nevertheless, the admiration and reverence for Hawk among skateboarding enthusiasts endure, as fans assembled in droves to watch the Birdman perform his version, in a recent social media post.

In this old video, ever-young Hawk is seen attempting the trick, though in his initial attempts, he was missing the execution just by the skin of his teeth. On his failed attempts, he also stated, “trying it so many times I started to feel that this could be the ultimate disappointment.” With his teammates cheering him along, he finally nails the trick, shocked at having made history. At the end of the video, he is seen kissing his son. Little did he know back then that this record would be untouched for years.

The 900 trick, a breathtaking display of aerial mastery, was the pinnacle of Tony Hawk’s illustrious career. In this trick, the skateboarder completes two and a half rotations in the air without touching the ground. On June 27 1999 X Games, Hawk astounded the world by completing the first-ever 900 vert trick. This groundbreaking maneuver defied the laws of gravity and solidified Hawk’s status as a skateboarding legend.

In 2020, Gui Khury of Brazil made history when he not only broke the years-old record of Tony Hawk for a 900 vert but also created a new milestone in skateboarding history. Khury had attempted and nailed a 1080 trick, which became a new record of three spins in one aerial vert. Despite Hawk’s record being broken, internet users cannot get over the first time when it happened, and they have given this video the same love as they did while watching it then.
