Basketball and skateboarding leave a special place in the hearts of Americans. Various athletes influenced their respective sports. But, both Stephen Curry and Tony Hawk hold a special place in each sport. They revolutionized their sport and are some of the greatest athletes in the world. Coincidentally, Hawk loves what Curry’s done for the community and the sport. 

 

Being one of the top names in the skateboarding circuit, he understands the journey that Curry went through under pressure. Consistently putting on a show for his fans, Stephen won his fourth NBA title this season. But, Hawk saw potential in the kid and once recalled how he inspired him.

Stephen Curry inspired Tony Hawk!

Widely understood as the finest basketball shooter, he holds a special place in the basketball fraternity. Some of his long-range three-pointers are awe-inspiring, and no one do them better than him. During clutch moments, no one can put the ball into the net, like Curry. For this reason, Hawk believes he is unique and intriguing to many generations.

“The most inspirational athlete to me is Steph Curry. I think he holds himself with a lot of class, humility,” said Hawk, wax lyrical about his competitor’s persona. He added, “I can’t imagine the pressures that are put upon him at such a young age. I think that he navigates it very well and I admire that.” Hawk had his fair of issues but always took away the positives. There were doubts regarding his ability to lead the Golden State Warriors to another title this year, and he did it in style.

“I had to go through similar experiences as someone his age but at the same time, a lot of ups and downs in a career, but … I see only the successful part with him,” mentioned Curry. For Hawk, he continues to influence skateboarders across the world.

During the late 90s, Hawk attempted the 900 tricks, one of the most demanding tricks in skateboarding. Under pressure to perform, he finally nailed it and reached the pinnacle of the sport. After that trick, Hawk marketed the sport well and attained a global audience. Outside it, Hawk builds skate parks around the country for young kids and other athletes to practice their craft.

These two men are similar in humility, class, and professionalism. They have dominated the sport for years and paved the way for a whole new generation to take up the sport. Kudos to these gentlemen.
