Birdman Hawk recently took to his Instagram to share an interesting video depicting the learning curve of a student he is proud of. The student is none other than Grammy-winning rapper Kid Cudi.

Kid Cudi, born Scott Ramon Seguro Mescudi is known for winning a Grammy for his collaboration with Kanye West, Rihanna, and Fergie for the globally renowned single ‘All of the Lights.’ Although, he is not beyond challenging himself to venture into newer territories. As per the video posted by Tony Hawk, the rapper can be seen taking his first steps into the world of skateboarding.

Cudi is seen laughing at his mentor as he slams down on the floor while his board rolls away from under him. Yet, he is back up on the skateboard in no time. His teacher who is famous for his 900 degrees at the 1999 X Games is rather proud of his new student’s progress.

“I have now given him two lessons in as many weeks and it has been gratifying to see his commitment to the process.” The skateboarding pioneer continues, “Rarely do beginning skaters take direction so well, or progress as quickly. By the second ‘lesson’ he is turning, doing fakies, kickturns, fakie 180s, and starting to snap ollies. And he’s taken a couple heavy slams in the process!”

Appreciating Cudi’s newfound interest in the sport, Hawk expressed his gratitude to him for helping Skateboarding reach a wider audience. “It’s been a pleasure and an honor getting to know Scott over this time,” he wrote.

The joy of trying out new things

Kid Cudi also took to social media to express his sentiments. After his first two weeks of learning to skate, he tweeted “The homie and coach, @tonyhawk hooked me up w a ramp builder. First day of installation tomorrow. This is unreal. Always wanted to skate ramps. I feel like a big kid,”. 

 

 

Skateboarding is not the only thing that the rapper has recently taken an interest in. In a recent interview in October, with RollingStone, the rapper confessed his desire to become a kindergarten teacher. Worried that he might be nearing the end of his career as a rapper, Cudi confessed that he might not “have what they have” in reference to legendary rap icons, as he discussed aging and future prospects of producing newer albums in his interview.
