Along with the adrenaline rush it induces, Rodeo sports might also render some brutal lacerations to its pursuers. Along similar lines, American professional rodeo cowboy, J.B. Mauney, met with an unfortunate incident recently. This extremely talented bull rider rose from the Professional Bull Riders (PBR) and won the world championship for the same in 2013 and 2015. He was ranked no. 9 on the list of top 30 bull riders in PBR history in 2023.
Not just once, Mauney in his career has faced a lot of unfortunate accidents while riding. However, following his recent accident in one of the prestigious competitions, there has been good news about Mauney’s condition.

JB Mauney met with a brutal accident at the Lewiston Roundup on the 6th of September 2023. The cowboy landed on his head after he was flipped by a bull named Arctic Assassin. And it seemed like the injury would definitely be a crucial one. He was immediately transported to St. Joseph Regional Medical Center by an ambulance with severe neck injuries.
However, after being taken to the hospital, a nursing supervisor declared Mauney to be listed in good condition. The Roundup Director, Bill Jenkins informed that for determining the next steps in the cowboy’s medical treatment, he was scheduled for an MRI on the afternoon of 7th September.
While he was being taken out of the arena, Mauney thought that his neck was broken, and a huge crowd amassed near the grandstands to witness him getting fitted with a neck brace. This was not the first time he had witnessed such an accident in his career; he had faced multiple major incidents before as well.
JB Mauney’s chilling accidents in his bull riding career
Mauney is considered one of the best and toughest cowboys in the business, excelling in a career that ranks among the most dangerous sports, where accidents are a constant part of the game. Mauney has frequently made headlines for both his victories and spine-chilling injuries. In a video that circulated on the internet in March, the 36-year-old was seen explaining his history of injuries.
According to The Lewis Tribune, he has experienced all the injuries that most of us cannot even imagine about. He has had two broken legs; he got both of his jaws broken, and he broke both feet. This is not just it, adding to the list are broken shoulder blades, his back, and even his eye socket. Despite all of this, he shared a quirky statement, “I never broke my heart.”
It is truly remarkable how the cowboy remains so motivated despite enduring numerous injuries. This remarkable resilience is largely attributed to his father’s influence. As he once said to Mauney, if both his legs are not broken, he must get up and walk out of the arena. This unwavering determination is what sets the toughest cowboy apart and solidifies his place in rodeo history as the toughest of them all.
