West Bradley, who is 3 years old, is a courageous fighter facing leukemia. While the fact that they had a family link may have influenced Kimzey’s decision to donate the vest, it was not the sole reason Kimzey gave it up. Nobody anticipated Kimzey giving away one of his championship vests. While Kimzey may have mailed his vest, there was no guarantee that it would earn enough money to afford the treatment.
That’s when the community stepped in. While the vest is a highly rare collector’s item, people widely didn’t know it would be part of the fundraiser. After hearing about the vest, the community began to spread the word and raise the price to $3000 from $2000. The community also pitched in, as seen by the fundraising event, where there was a visible flurry of emotions and people standing by in solidarity.
The fundraising event, which took place over the weekend in Mississippi, drew 177 individuals. Despite the limited population, the event generated more than $50,000. West’s family could sense the community’s love towards helping them preserve their child after receiving such enormous sums of money. In the video provided by KMTX, his mother expresses her love and gratitude to Kimzey and the entire community.
Community unites: Kimzey’s gift is a vessel of hope
After the presenter of the famous KWTX show ‘Tell Me Something Good,’ July Hays, described what happened and the scenario, KWTX presented a video given by West’s mother, expressing appreciation and thankfulness for the community and Kimzey. In the video, she expresses her gratitude for the tremendous support she has received from her town and the rodeo community worldwide. She was very happy that Kimzey’s vest raised a significant amount of money. The family also stated that they plan to take their son to St. Judes for treatment from Wednesday to Sunday. He will be treated for two years.
