In a famous annual competition, a rodeo prodigy scored a flawless two-digit rating. A great deal of the hard-headed individuality and independence that many Americans value is evident in the equestrian sport. Various events drew spectators to the stands as the equestrian season got underway in Dodge City, Kansas to see the show of horsemanship. This yearly tradition has been a part of the community since the summer of 1977, earning its cultural value. It just adds to the sport’s integrity, which has been passed down through many generations ever since.

The timed eight seconds in bull and bronc riding have become its trademark due to its long history. A sport that can be easily understood continues to expand its winning list every year by including rookies. When it happens, the successive champions simply enhance the exhilarating dirt trip by adding the sentiment. Recently, in the ongoing rodeo events, another cowboy soared to victory adding a milestone in his portfolio and thousands to his million dollars in purse.

Rodeo event saw a rising star add another win

Cole Franks won the Big League division at the 2023 Dodge City Roundup Rodeo with a score of 86.5 points. The Wrangler Pro Tour Rodeo, which began on August 2 will last five days, while the performance by Frank riding the horse is from the second day. Thursday’s bareback riding event looked incredibly exhilarating. An Instagram post by @prca_prorodeo showed his mastery as he rode his horse, Big League.

Another Texas cowboy, Chad Rutherford, came in the second position. While some other events included Breakaway, Steer Wrestling, Saddle Bronc Riding, Tie-Down Roping, Team Roping, and Bull Riding. The first-round leaders in all these events have already jammed-packed the tally, adding thousands to their purses. As the events go down, Bronc riders are also adding their names to the list while Frank’s name is at the top. In 2021, he set himself a goal for the bareback riding Rookie of the Year, and the rest is history.
He made his NFR debut in 2021 and won third place in the bareback riding competition after joining the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA). In the same year as a student at West Texas A&M University, he won both the All-Around and Bareback Riding National Championships of the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association (NIRA). Even became a part of the Men’s team that won the National Championship. He is a two-time Wrangler National Finals Rodeo (NFR) qualifier in 2021 and 2022. By last year he climbed to the eighth slot in the bareback riding rankings. Well, do you know where his inspiration comes from?

Rodeo history of the Franks- a heartwarming story

In December 2021, Bret Franks, a former NFR cowboy, had the opportunity to see his son Cole Franks compete at the same Thomas & Mack arena where he last rode 20 years back. The former saddle bronc rider from Oklahoma competed three times in the National Finals Rodeo (NFR). And even though he quit as a professional in 2004, he kept working in the rodeo business for another five years after that.

Despite the rather emotional aspect of the story, young Franks has upheld the legacy that his father left behind. As Cole is poised to achieve his next goal on the dirt rodeo fans eagerly anticipate his forthcoming victories.
