Cullen Telfer started off his career as a wrestler at a nascent age. He was a freshman at Strawberry Crest High School in Dover, Florida, and had already won a state championship. As quoted by Fox13news, talking about his transition to animal sports, he said, “Whenever it’s done right, and you get in timing with the animal, it almost feels like time slows down, in slow motion,” he said. “There’s nothing that I’ve done that can replicate that feeling.”
Cullen is all set to head for the Wrangler National Finals in Las Vegas, scheduled to commence in December this year. Ranked 15th among the nation’s best bull riders, he is one of the few very exceptional sportsmen who not only participated in multiple sports but excelled at them as well. He is more than ready to mess with the bull and get the horns.
Backed with his wrestling learning, ready for the Rodeo challenge
He started early in the bull riding, as he was just eight years old when he first put his feet in the Rodeo arena in Lakeland. Unsure of the better of the two, he was equally engaged in wrestling as he was in bull riding. Despite his success in wrestling, Cullen found himself drawn to the world of rodeo. By his senior year in high school, he had shifted his focus from wrestling to bull riding.
His passion for rodeo led him to win the event in the state High School Finals Rodeo during his senior year. His actual trigger point came after he got a rodeo scholarship at a college in Texas where he still takes classes, and he turned pro at 18 years old. The discipline and determination he developed as a wrestler have been instrumental in his transition to becoming a professional bull rider.
So as he steps into the rodeo arena in Las Vegas, he does so with confidence and resolve. But he also knows that he has what it takes to meet that challenge head-on. And no matter what happens in Las Vegas, one thing is certain: this wrestler turned rodeo competitor has already proven that when you’re passionate about something and willing to give it your all, what lies further in your reach is a recipe for success.
