Rodeo has been one of the most beloved animal sports in the United States for decades now. There have been athletes who etched their names in history that will be cherished forever. Apart from athletes and animals, there are authorities behind the curtains who ensure the smooth functioning of these sports. One such official, who served the sport with all his dedication and selflessness, is calling it a day now.

He devoted more than 20 years of his life to rodeo, and he held a prominent position while managing other things in his personal life. Now he has decided to hang up the hat of responsibility and is leaving behind a legacy to follow.

Dr. R.C. Trotter, who served as president of the Dodge City Roundup Rodeo for 20 years, will be stepping down from his position. As per the report of Twisted Rodeo, Dr. Trotter has been a family physician by profession for more than 40 years in Dodge City. While managing his medical practice, he also served in the volunteer presidential position for more than 20 years. His volunteer work as a doctor on site has been commendable; talking about his retirement, Trotter stated, “I was trained in sports medicine and saw the need for a physician at the rodeo.” He added, “For the first four years, I bought my own ticket and hung out with the EMTs.”

The upcoming event will mark his final tenure as president of the volunteer-run organization, taking place from August 2 to August 6 at Roundup Arena, with the Dodge City Xtreme Bulls set for August 1 at 7:45 p.m. While he is leaving the arena, he builds a team that ensures the smooth functioning of one of the major pro rodeos in North America. In the beginning of 2000, he was offered the role of an officer at the rodeo, and from 2003 on, he took over the role and continued it all these years.

What is he leaving behind?

In his tenure, he worked closely with the organization to make it one of the most successful rodeos in the country. While he was serving his position, Roundup was also inducted into the ProRodeo Hall of Fame in Colorado Springs in 2012. One of his children stated that Trotter used to take them to the arena, and they used to watch things happening behind the scenes.

Not only this, Trotter also established Family Practice Associates 40 years ago, which is the oldest private medical practice in Dodge City. His dedication and selflessness in serving the sport for over 20 years while managing his family and medical career exemplify true passion. Like a cowboy riding off into the sunset, he leaves behind a legacy of success and a trail for others to follow in the rodeo’s arena and in life’s challenges.
