The rodeo realm over the past week lost one of its significant names to a prolonged fight with cancer. Tammy Pate, the 55-year-old, was an inspiration and a support to the many cowgirls persisting and aspiring. A will to continue family history and a will to provide cowgirls with an opportunity to be visible drove the icon for most of her life. Today, her actions and intentions live on as she passes to another world.
On the 21st of December, the Art of Cowgirl, Tammy’s brainchild organization, announced that the rodeo icon had bid her goodbyes. The shocking revelations in the news were initially met with grief and eventually with a sense of honor and admiration. Parades or tribute events, all and more came Tammy’s way.

On the 31st of December, the Cowboy Channel, one of the networks responsible for carrying the western and rodeo sports, announced an honor for Tammy. The network stated that its 135th Rose Day Parade broadcast would be dedicated to the late Tammy Pate. “The Western community and cowgirls everywhere lost one of our great leaders of the Western lifestyle just before Christmas,” the site’s news release stated. Adding her achievements, the site reasoned the honor on the New Year.
The 135-year tradition will feature Michelle Williams, David Archuleta, and Jordan Sparks in 2024. 5.5 Miles of roses paraded in various forms pull a massive crowd. With 42 million cable and satellite homes to its name, the Cowboy Channel stands to provide an honor Tammy deserves. However, to no one’s surprise, the gesture isn’t the only one exuding admiration for Tammy. An event to gather and closer to heart awaits the rodeo enthusiasts further.
