“The true cowgirl is someone with the spirit, and it doesn’t mean that she comes from a ranch or the West, but just a woman who has a belief in herself and is gritty. And ready to take on any challenge.” With the deep-rooted tradition at heart, Pate challenged the very perception of Rodeo. The journey of Tammy Pate, the visionary founder of Art of the Cowgirl, was deeply intertwined with the rugged traditions of rodеo and ranching, a heritage fostered by her upbringing courtesy of her parents, Gordon and Shirley Clark. Her words loomed large as she took up the challenging fight against cancer. That valiant battle concluded on December 1 as she left the world for her heavenly abode, leaving a permanent scar on the rodeo realm and beyond.
Hailing from Ryegate, Montana, Tammy Pate’s indomitable spirit extended to her role as a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Her impact reverberated through the lives she touched, inspiring, encouraging, and illuminating the paths of many. Her departure marks the end of an era, but her legacy, akin to the vast Montana landscape, will endure.

On May 19th, 2019, Tammy Pate was diagnosed with Stage Four metastatic breast cancer which had already expanded its grip on Pate’s bones and gastrointestinal tract. Her kidneys also stopped working. According to Pate, that was the beginning of the end as she then started to sort her priorities.
For her, it has always been her family, her husband, and her two children, Rial and Mesa. She beamed in pride while watching her shadow in her children as she said, “I’m proud to see my children, as well, carrying on in this tradition.” With the inspiration of another person close to her heart, her husband Curt Pate, her influence extended further.
