On New Year’s, the city of Pasadena in California was a profusion of colors became the equestrian mecca for cowboys and cowgirls in America. Amidst the showerings of carnations, daises, and marigolds, a jolly cavalcade proceeded through the city’s thoroughfares, engrossing spectators of all ages. As Broadway queen Audra McDonald paid homage to the Pasadena tradition, the unifying factor of rodeo culture became unshrouded to the thousands of spectators.

At 8 a.m., the 135th Rose Parade promulgated with a B-2 stealth bomber piercing through the sunny skies. This was just a tiny fragment of the spectacles in store for the congregated crowd. Each float brought a new flush of joy in them, but the crescendo of cheers reached its zenith when a special float, representing woman power in rodeo, came to the spectator’s sightline.

Cowgirls showcase new era of rodeo

RFD-TV highlighted the Cowgirls’ involvement in the Rose Parade with an IG video update. Captioned, “Cowgirls Rule! Check out our 2024 Rose Parade Float! the video brought the viewers a closer look at the intricately designed float. With a huge cowboy hat for a roof and a marching band on horseback, the pink float screamed rodeo. As it advanced further, the announcers on the RFD-TV channel screamed the “Cowgirls Rule” chant to welcome the Americana award-winning float. As an epitome of Western values and patriotism, the float also featured an All-American cowgirl charging ahead on her spirited Palomino while the U.S. flag waved proudly in her hands. Eighteen-time World Champion JJ Hampton and WRBC World Champion Allysa Spierings grooved to the live music of Annie Bosko.

The star-studded float also featured actress Jen Landon of Yellowstone fame joining the festivities. The atmosphere became somber when the announcers reminded that the float was dedicated to Tammy Pate. She lost her battle against cancer on December 1. As the spectators wiped their tears watching the “riderless saddle” on her beloved equine, the rodeo fans gleamed in admiration.

Rodeo fans shower cowgirls with love

The fans were bowled over by the lovely spectacles on show on the Cowgirls float. One fan was pleased about their tribute theme, writing, “And dedicating it to @tammypate004 is a fantastic tribute and well deserved!”. Another fan watched the show online and complimented the design team, saying, “Great float!!! Always love watching the Rose Parade on RFDTV!!!”. Next, one fan regretted their choice of broadcasters, remarking, “I would have preferred to watch it on RFD TV, all I got was commercials didn’t see any of it”.

The parade was halted for a brief period to clear out the pro-Palestinian protesters. Except for this incident, the Rose Parade went without a hitch and has become a shrine showcasing the brilliance of Tammy Pate.
