The American Rodeo Contender Tournament has presented cowboy lovers with the ultimate showdown. From barrel racing, team racing, breakaway racing, tie-down racing, steer wrestling, saddle bronc riding, bareback riding, and bull riding, each discipline has witnessed blazing performances from the best of the best. The American Contender Tournament is a series of rodeo events with three regional finals that determine who advances to the Contender Tournament Finals.

Recently, the second stop of the tournament took place in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, at the American Finals Central 2024. And during the bucking showdown of the bull-riding icons, veteran rodeo champion Roscoe Jarboe inched closer to clinching a million-dollar victory.

Roscoe Jarboe clinches an important win at the American rodeo

In a post on Instagram by The American Rodeo and Roscoe Jarboe, a blazing announcement was made. The caption of the post read, “The Veteran makes it happen.” Jarboe, a bull riding icon, outshone the historic Jim Norick Arena, known for hosting the National Finals Rodeo from 1965 to 1978. He was among the best riders, like Kase Hitt and Matt Palmer. Roscoe Jarboe got the highest score (85.25) and won $1,560. He also had the highest combined score (160.25) and earned $10,000.

On the other hand, Kase Hitt and Matt Palmer did well too, earning $1,200 and $840, respectively, in the first round and $5,500 and $2,000 in the finals. Kase Hitt and Matt Palmer ended up with the same score (85.00) in the finals, so they shared the third and fourth positions, where both of them got $2,000 each for their efforts. With this victory, Roscoe Jarboe now finds himself closer to realizing his rodeo dream, alongside 45 other talented contenders.

The contenders of the American Finals Central 2024

At the American Finals Central 2024, athletes outshone in other disciplines as well. Tilden Hooper was the champion in back riding and also earned  $10,000 and a chance to the finals. In Tie-Down Roping, Shane Hanchey nailed the event in 7.71 seconds, with his five-year-old horse making its rodeo debut. In steer wrestling, Jacob Talley threw down the fastest steer in 3.54 seconds, securing the championship.

Saddle Bronc featured Shea Fornier dominating the scene, while Team Roping was conquered by Dawson Graham and Dillon Graham in 4.28 seconds. And lastly, breakaway roping saw Josie Conner clinch the win in an impressive 2.34 seconds. The top five athletes in each discipline from each region now advance to the Contender Tournament Finals. The Contender Tournament Finals are scheduled for Feb. 10 in Abilene, Texas, where the winners move one step closer to the chance of winning $1 million at The American Rodeo on March 9 in Arlington, Texas, and fans wait in anticipation for a showdown.
