Few sporting categories could claim to be as infamous for injuries as rodeo. From 19-year-old Seth Saulteaux losing his life in the recent Indian National Finals Rodeo to Tyler Bingham withdrawing from National Finals Rodeo due to a neck injury, the sport is hard on everyone. In a recent event, another performer suffered a saddening fate after being run over by a bull.

Bull riding star Manu Lataste suffered a brutal injury after falling off his bull. When the incident occurred, he was performing at the prestigious Days of ‘47 rodeo event. The staff present on the grounds immediately ran to his rescue to attend to his medical needs.

Rodeo performer suffers a nasty concussion

The incident occurred on the night of 21st July in Salt Lake City. Manu Lataste who specializes in bull jumping, met with an unfortunate injury during his third performance. Lataste took a fall from his bull and was run over before he could gather himself and move out of the way. He suffered a nasty concussion in the accident, while the Justin Sports medicine team rushed to his aid. The bull rider was treated on-site.

The medical team said that the rodeo had suffered a mild laceration on his head, and received ten staples to fix the gaping wound. Despite his injury, Lataste had announced that he would follow his hardy rodeo spirit and not forfeit from the event. Lataste expressed his desire to return to the event for his performance the following day.

According to KUTV, one of the bulls had escaped from the main arena a day prior to Lataste’s injury. The bull escaped to the backstage area while Lataste was still performing. However, the situation was brought under control by the experienced and well-versed crew of the event. The organization also claimed that neither the bull nor any person was harmed during the recapture. As for Lataste, the bull rider has a history of bouncing back from grave injuries.

Manu Lataste is a winner in all things rodeo

Emmanuel ‘Manu’ Lataste is a professional bull jumper from France. He has faced more than 500 bulls and has suffered over ten bad injuries in his 20-year career. In 2022, Lataste participated in TBS’s Go Big Show, which features big-scale performances and large stage acts. Lataste defeated his opponents to reach the finals, where he had the audience in awe by performing bull-jumping flips on the stage.

During his final act, whilst evading a charging bull he landed on the wrong foot during a flip, blowing out his knee. Yet, despite the fumble Lataste won the series title taking home a prize money of $100,000. His latest injury is sure to not hold him back either.

The Days of ‘47 Rodeo is one of Utah’s most prestigious and longest-running traditions. The rodeo event started back in 1847 in Salt Lake City and continues to this day. The stadium has a housing capacity of 10,000 spectators.

The event is held annually in July and is a private, non-profit, and volunteer organization. Days of ‘47 Rodeo of Utah is a charitable event presented by Zions Bank. The rodeo event works towards the education of kids in the state of Utah alongside honoring and carrying forward the brilliant heritage of the state’s culture.
