The determination to succeed
As the regular season came to a close, the Gamblers did what was necessary to secure their well-deserved “2023 regular season champions” t-shirts. They managed to maintain their lead over the Kansas City Outlaws, who finished the season with an impressive 18-10 record, just one game behind. Team captain and two-time World Champion Jose Vitor Leme played a pivotal role in their success, not only leading the team but also securing his second consecutive MVP title.

Leme, with an impressive 68% riding percentage, went 20-for-29 in the regular season, while his closest rival, Kansas City?s Cassio Dias, held a 73% riding percentage with a record of 19-for-26 in his debut season.
Leme’s unwavering commitment earned him the nickname “the oak” among his peers. Even after a brutal accident that briefly sidelined him, he returned to the arena and delivered a remarkable performance.
Rodeo Season of triumph and turmoil
The journey to the regular-season championship was not without its share of ups and downs for the Austin Gamblers. They began the season with an impressive 13-1 record, but as the season progressed, they faced some challenges, going 6-8 down the stretch. They experienced a series of 1-2 finishes at various events, making the path to victory far from smooth.

Head coach Michael Gaffney, who understands the pressures of the sport better than most, acknowledged the dramatic nature of their regular-season campaign. The Kansas City Outlaws, their closest competitors, mounted a late-season surge, closing in on the Gamblers. The increasing pressure and the constant race for the championship led to heightened stress for the Gamblers.
Gaffney emphasized the importance of staying focused on the primary goal: riding the bulls. ?Just go out and nod your head like it?s another bull. Forget the noise, and things will work out,? he said. With these words as their mantra, the Austin Gamblers secured the regular-season championship.
The 2023 PBR Camping World Team Series concluded its regular season on October 10th, with the Austin Gamblers celebrating their triumph as champions. They, along with the Kansas City Outlaws, Texas Rattlers, and Oklahoma Freedom, will advance to the PBR Teams Championship in Las Vegas from October 20-22, 2023.
