Sage Kimzey, a well-known name in the rodeo world, is rarely connected with any other sport. Few people are aware that Sage Kimzey is not only a rodeo legend, but he also played basketball. While he may not have followed it professionally, the fact that he acknowledged it demonstrates his passion for the sport.
The practice of participating in sports in high school is shared by many famous athletes. Sage was no exception, having played basketball all four years of high school at Cheyenne High School in Oklahoma. In interviews, he discussed his engagement in the sport and how it benefited his career as a pro bull rider.

Sage came from a family that was extensively involved in bull riding, with his father working in the PRCA as a barrel man and his mother having riding experience in her school days. He found his greatest comfort in the fields of bull riding, having grown up surrounded by them. He played basketball in high school. When he was in his senior year, his team had won all four years he had played.
He was a point guard. He said, “We had two great guards; they played most of the time, so I came in and gave them breathers whenever they needed it.” He also demonstrated that being a point guard was a difficult job and that the sport was tough by saying, “Thank goodness, they took all the pressure off me.” In interviews, he says that playing basketball in high school benefited him a lot in his professional career as a bull rider.
He was used to getting roughed up as a point guard, which benefited him when he was on a bull. It also improved his general stamina and endurance, which allowed him to stay on the bulls for an extended period of time. Evidence of his comments may be seen in the fact that he was one of the youngest bull riders to ever win championships and earn high career earnings. In a recent Instagram story, he shared a photo of himself in his basketball uniform with his squad.
