On Sunday, Troy Tillard won his second Cheyenne Frontier Days title in steer roping after 20 years. Douglas, Wyoming-based Tillard won the title at the 127th Anniversary of the Cheyenne Frontier Days Rodeo. After the game, he had a chat with the fans in the east stands of Frontier Park.
It was reported by Wyoming News that he had a wide smile on his face while he was interacting with the fans. This victory holds greater significance for him, given that he underwent hip surgery last year and made a remarkable recovery early this year.
Tillard won his first CFD championship in 2004 and finished two steers in an impressive time of 31.4 seconds, which averages fourth overall. He fixed his spot for the championship on July 15, along with more than 130 cowboys who finished both preliminary rounds at the Cheyenne Frontier Days, out of which the top 12 returned on Sunday. It has been a rollercoaster ride for Tillard in professional rodeo since his debut.

Troy Tillard’s rodeo career
45-year-old Tillard has been practicing professional rodeo since 1997, and his career is worth over $386,140. In 2022, he was ranked 58th in the 2022 world standings, and his earnings were $4,785 last year. Apart from winning the CFD title in 2004, his major titles include the Steer Average Wrestling title in 2005, and the Dick Stull Memorial Rodeo in 2011, and is ranked 25th with career winnings of $16,750. He also won the West of the Pecos and San Patricio County PRCA Rodeo titles in 2013.
