Rock Climbing is a dangerous sport, no matter how safe you are. One slip here, one miss there, and you will find yourself plummeting to your death. Now imagine being crazy enough to have extreme conversations about falling to your death when you’re hanging hundreds of feet off the ground. While that would be a complete no-no for most, apparently it’s completely normal for Magnus Midtbø and Cedar Wright.

At least that is what they were doing while trying to climb the longest man-made climbing route. Not only this, they came to some crazy conclusions as well.

Magnus Midtbø got the idea of climbing the longest man-made route, and he chose Cedar Wright as his partner. This is not the first time he has paired with a famous climber. The two embarked on the dangerous yet exhilarating journey of reaching the top of the 220m-high man-made climbing course at Verzasca Dam in Switzerland, which was built by RedBull for professional rock climbers. Sounds tame enough, at least for rock climbing.

Well, while these two were climbing, for some reason, they started contemplating the consequences of untying themselves while they were on the course. Midtbø suddenly pondered, “If we untied then it would be completely different. The odds would turn.” To which Wright’s reply was, “I think we both would die. We’ll no you’d probably live just because you know… If it were either send or die, you know, you would probably live and I would die.”

However, Midtbø had another point of view. According to him, “I think I would just be too scared so I would overgrip and I would be pumped and fall. I actually don’t know who would make it further.” And after having this conversation, they decided to finish their climb, with Midtbø commenting at one point, “We have all the time in the world, we are not competing against anyone.” What are these men made of?

The Horrifying Falls and Difficult Pitches

While it might seem so, this conversation was not the most soul-shaking thing to happen during the climb. Magnus Midtbø and Cedar Wright proceeded to fall off the rope many times, but luckily, they had not decided to untie themselves. So their safety equipment came in handy. Still, falling off the wall into a chasm is a terrifying experience, doesn’t matter that you’re tied to a rope.

After one such fall, Midtbø asked Wright, “The fall was okay?” Wright replied aptly to this question, saying, “It was fine. I mean, it was horrifying.” One thing is for sure, only men with unfathomable guts, such as Magnus Midtbø and Cedar Wright, can even attempt to make small talk while doing something so treacherous.
