Mount Everest, a behemoth of a mountain located in the Himalayas, is the Earth’s highest mountain above sea level. It stands at an elevation of about 8, 849 meters. However, this brave climber reached the summit of the tallest mountain in the world. Of course, it was a harrowing experience, which he talked about on the Joe Rogan podcast.

Colin Timothy O’Brady is an American professional endurance athlete as well as motivational speaker, and avid adventurer. In an interview on the Joe Rogan Experience podcast, he revealed the difficulties he faced while climbing the daunting Mount Everest. O’Brady describes the experience saying, “Day 49-day 50 I’m literally like… I’m crying into my GoPro being like, ‘I’m running out of food. I’m exhausted. I don’t know if I can keep doing this’. I’m just like, worked, right.”
However, despite the adverse conditions, he did finish the climb. He took his victory over the summit as an example of how, sometimes, the only difference between success and failure is simply pushing through. Even when one wants to just quit. According to him, “Actually when you say ‘I Can’, actually when you don’t stop, you get stronger. And for me, in my own story in my own journey, I think that final day, that final 32-hour push, proves it.”

Ultimately, Colin O’Brady realized that if he just said he could instead of he couldn’t, he would reach his goal. “But sure enough, I don’t say I can’t. You know, it was that 40% or that 50% … that’s that moment when I wanted to quit or I should have quit.” But he didn’t, and he attributes his motivation to a particular person.

During the interview, Joe Rogan remembered Goggin’s philosophy and said, “People quit at 40%.” Colin O’ Brady told Joe Rogan, “People quit. That ‘I can’t’ voice comes up.” According to O’Brady, this voice is what everyone needs to fight to overcome any obstacle that is present in their life. It is definitely an interesting philosophy to consider. If it can inspire someone to climb Everest, it can definitely inspire others to meet smaller goals.
