Scottish teen rock climber, Finn Clarke unlocked a new set of achievements after he aced his recent feat at the Falkirk Wheel. The kid who hails from Dunblane, was diagnosed with a rare brain tumor in 2019, that gravely affected his health. Although he never recovered to his primary state, he shocked the world with his adventurous streak and kindness, at the same time.
In an article by Daily Record published today, Clarke’s journey from consecutive brain surgeries to abseiling the iconic Falkirk Wheel was spotlighted. The teenager had a greater motive behind his stunt that would benefit the several patients with brain tumor.

According to the article by Daily Record, after the 15-year-old was diagnosed with benign craniopharyngioma, he underwent a total of three brain surgeries, the latest one being just 2 years ago. However, he still wasn’t completely cured, since the tumor regained power once again in 2022. Not disheartened, Clarke channeled his sentiments into a zealous attempt of abseiling the monumental Falkirk Wheel. Moreover, he did so to raise funds for better qualitative research on the condition.
Unfortunately, the rock climber was diagnosed on Hogmanay 2019, which is the Scottish last day of the year. The core symptoms that affected his health were fatigue and a peculiar blind spot in his eye. Proud of her son’s efforts, Clarke’s mum, Susan said, “Finn did amazing and he got amazing support from everyone. He’s managed to raise around £3,490 plus Gift Aid so that’s going to be just about £4,000 in the end so he has done really well.”
However, Clarke wasn’t alone during his difficult times. His dear ones collected a significant amount of capital to help him receive quality treatment in Manchester. He was treated with specialist proton therapy. A major contribution from his friend’s mum and popular fitness icon, Val Storrie was made; she participated in an intense ultra-marathon around the island of Arran and raised over 3,500 pounds for his recovery.
How the tumor affected Finn Clarke’s life
As the source revealed, the Scottish athlete was “completely feral with energy” prior to his diagnosis. However, after the tumor took its toll, Clarke’s energy levels spiraled, to the extent that he can perform only limited physical activities. “He sometimes gets a little down with the fatigue and not keeping up with weekend activities on a school trip or the BBs but never too much,” his mother admitted.

Another drastic outcome of his condition is that the kid’s pituitary gland is completely dysfunctional. Clarke periodically ingests alternative medications for the deficient hormones and adrenaline. Therefore, Susan added, “It means he might go rock climbing on a Saturday but then it will be a down day on Sunday and that’s tough.”
