The Temple of Kukulkan is more than a thousand years old and is sacred to the Mesoamerican people of Mexico. A beauty and a relic from the pre-Columbian Maya civilization, this pyramid in Chichen Itza is open to tourists for visit. However, the stairs of the pyramid are forbidden to climb, under the Tinum Municipality. Recently, when a tourist from central Europe, broke that cardinal rule, he was not spared by those in charge of maintaining security. Fans had rather varied and interesting responses to the incident. Although, most of them understood why the security reacted in such a way.

In a video on Reddit, a Polish tourist is seen crossing the barricade and running atop the stairs of the pyramid. Later the video cuts to when the man is back on the ground, and is being subjected to some form of physical assault. Let’s look at what the fans had to say.

Reddit user R/facepalm shared the 50-second video with the caption, “Polish tourist attacked after climbing the ancient pyramid in Mexico”. While it is not known what happened to the tourist after the attack, the short clip of him climbing and then subsequently being beaten, became viral news. Here’s how some of the fans reacted:

While both are physical exercises, the second one involves a high risk of dying. The skillset required is also an essential part of the Olympics now. However, despite the fear involved, climbing knows no boundaries and neither does it care for age.

In a rare scenario, a 6-year-old was seen climbing some of the highest mountains last month. After Sport Climbing made its debut at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021, climbing in general saw a boost around the world. The young boy from Lancashire is Oscar Burrow. He aims to climb the 12 highest summits in the UK for the Derrians House Children’s Hospice. He wants them all to go on a journey to climb one day, and is popularizing the notion by doing so himself.

Whether it was fair to attack the person climbing the pyramid or not can be debated forever. But breaking a sacred rule in a foreign country will have repercussions and fans seem to side with that notion.
