Did Snoop Dogg just steal the show at the Paris Olympics with his weightlifting gag?

“I grew up watching the Olympics and am thrilled to see the incredible athletes bring their A-game to Paris,” said 52-year-old legendary rapper Snoop Dogg in December last year, reflecting on his role as an NBC correspondent. Reports confirm his presence in Paris, where he has already begun meeting athletes ahead of the games, conducting interviews, and offering tidbits of motivation. Mayor Mathieu Hanotin of Saint-Denis has also confirmed that Snoop Dogg will play a special role in the Olympic festivities.

As an official torchbearer, he will join other notable figures like Salma Hayek in carrying the flame from the Paris suburb, culminating at the iconic Eiffel Tower. Already making waves in Paris, Snoop Dogg’s involvement has garnered attention, particularly following a viral moment showcasing his signature humor during a weightlifting gag at the Olympics.

Recently on the community Reddit, they reshared weightlifter Sergii Putsoff’s Instagram story featuring Snoop Dogg. r/weightlifting, captioning the post with, “Snoop Dogg has entered the chat,”. The music icon was seen in the video, lifting not weights, but just the bar used to stack the weights. He put up the act in front of Olympic weightlifters: Olivia Reeves, Hampton Morris and Jourdan Delacruz. The video went viral immediately because of its humorous tone and also because Snoop Dogg is one of the most beloved public figures of this century and witnessing him doing something outside of the norm was titillating to the uninitiated. He did enter the chat indeed, weights blazing.

Even Putsoff funnily added in the captions, “World will never be the same anymore 😎,” as the famous bop ‘Still D.R.E’ played in the background. As an NBC correspondent, Snoop even practiced positive affirmations with the athletes, “I want to do something with me and you together so you can have your mind set on positively while you’re in Paris. So, repeat after me, ‘I have trained my entire life for the Olympics.'” These affirmations will create good vibes permeating throughout the athletes so they can go out into the arenas and come out on top, a placebo of sorts to egg them on. Additionally, he will explore the city’s iconic landmarks, attend Olympic events, and visit the athletes, their friends, and their families. So points for camaraderie besides humor and good music? Snoop Dogg made an Instagram post himself. He was seen with Team USA’s Basketball team, the women’s fencing team, the martial arts team, and the weightlifting team. In the post, he jovially posed with all the athletes and was even seen trying out fencing himself. According to NBC, Snoop Dogg mentioned that there would be amazing competitions ahead, and he planned to bring his unique Snoop style to the mix. He predicted that these Olympics would be the most epic ever and encouraged everyone to stay tuned for all the razzmatazz. Snoop Dogg emphasized the importance of elevating and celebrating the games, aiming to make them unforgettable while competitors aimed to shine like diamonds in the rough.

Another fan referred to the iconic Gin & Juice song that Snoop Dogg recorded with Dr Dre. In the song, there’s an often-quoted line that says, “I keep my mind on my money, money on my mind.” So the fan amended it by cleverly replacing certain words with PR or personal record, writing, “I got my mind on my PR, and my PR on my mind.” It’s a funny play on words and showcases the lighthearted side of the user as well. We should strive to be this funny, innit?

The next fan also referred to the same song. This time they amended the line, “rollin down the street smokin indo, sippin on gin and juice.” They replaced the words with clean and jerk, which is predominantly a weightlifting terminology used in workout parlance. They wrote their cheeky lyrics, “Rolling down the street smoking indo, sippin on clean & jerk.”

Snoop Dogg is an avid practitioner of weed and everything marijuana, and he doesn’t hide it. So one fan joked about Dogg using weed as a doping drug and he indicated this using an emoji often associated with the drug. They expressed their sarcasm and wrote, “He definitely uses performance enhancing drugs. 🍃.”

The last fan also didn’t hesitate to drop some tips themselves. They wrote down a routine that Snoop Dogg must follow for better results ( at getting high). Switching out different strains of weed is the way to go. The fan jokingly wrote, “Snoop idk if you’re open to feedback, but if you are… i recommend dropping the weight and trying again. Switch out the indica for sativa 3 hours leading up to a training session. Good luck.”

Despite the ongoing marijuana jokes, it’s heartening to see an icon like Snoop Dogg wholeheartedly supporting Team USA. Fans eagerly await his magic at the Olympics as well.
