Today marks the culmination point of the road to the 2023 Paris Volleyball Qualifier. The climax is here! This saga began on the 16th of September and the coveted struggle is for 6 Olympic Quotas. The US team had incredibly and successively vanquished five powerful nations. They left us in awe and admiration. Not just one, two, or three, they garnered five successive victories. It was a wow moment, but then with a “throw in the towel” moment, they lost the battle.

On the 16th of September, they conquered Colombia. Next, they triumphed over Thailand. They went on and battled with Slovenia on the 19th, followed by a massive victory over the Republic of Korea and then Italy. But it ended with a sigh! The USA Volleyball Team faced their first defeat against Poland yesterday. This was the crucial juncture where the US team confronted Poland with their indomitable spirit but finally lost the battle.

Insights of the Match

The strong opponent and highly inspired Poland team clinched victory on their home ground. The venue was full of a massive crowd. People were cheering for Poland. The team gained accolades for their country and defeated the US team by 3-1. US was leading Poland in aces by 4-2 and in blocks by 11-8, but unfortunately lost the chance to win as Poland gained an edge in kills by 58-56. The difference in Unforced Errors led the team to victory as Poland collected 25 points from US errors and the US team got 18 points from Poland errors.

?It?s a real disappointment because we?re capable of beating that team,? U.S. Head Coach Karch Kiraly said. “We had a lead in the third, had things in control, and then let it slip away by just not executing the way we are capable of and need to. So, all eyes are ahead to Germany, and a chance to come back strong, pick ourselves back up, and respond with real strength and resolve.” This was his response after the combat.

Aftermath of the US Loss

The US team was immensely disappointed as they encountered their first loss. They were determined to win but had to face defeat at the hands of Poland. Now, in pool C, the US and Poland stand equally at 15 points each. If the US would have won this match, they would have secured their berth at the Paris Olympics. Now, they will have to face one more hurdle.
