Suni Lee, the gymnastic icon, was at the top of her game until a kidney issue momentarily halted her career. Not present on the competitive mat since the world team selection camp, the 20-year-old wanted to give it a shot at the 2024 Winter Cup. Not just that, her second desire was to get an uneven bars skill named after her. The full-twisting Jaeger, the newest skill she was trying to ace, is a dream still.

According to recent news, the Olympian, who was eyeing the Baku World Cup, didn’t land an invite from it. Despite that, the coach-athlete duo of Jess Graba and Lee have nothing to sit still for. Sporting the “we go back and we train and we do other things” mantra, the 2020 Tokyo Olympics all-around gold medalist is back at it.

Since age 6, Suni Lee has been training under the tutelage of Jess Graba. The one who had never taught her to stop took her to the gymnastics center for a restart. Resorting to her Instagram story, the 2019 World Floor silver medalist posted a story as an open threat to her rivals. Despite back-to-back falls on the uneven bars and balance beam, Lee keeps the lamp of hope lighted.

As the coach-athlete duo continues to push limits, the 2020 Tokyo Olympics team silver medalist may make it to the Pacific Rim Championships’ roster. With the 2023 US Championships beam bronze under her belt, she’s training for the best now. Ahead of the marquee game, how does her plan look?

Lee stressing on eating right

“It’s important to keep my body fueled and strong and healthy because it’s easier to get injured now that I’m just competing every single weekend.” Toe-to-toe with Jordan Chiles in eating preferences and gymnastics alike, the 21-year-old loves to indulge in a hearty pizza on her cheat days. “I love ice cream. That’s my go-to. Or like a milkshake” as an add-on. Starting her day with eggs and bacon or eggs and sausage, the Olympian shifts to banana protein powder, or strawberry milkshake often.

Quinoa or salad for lunch, Suni Lee steps out to train with just a protein bar sometimes. Some off-time snacks include almonds, cheese sticks, protein wafers with crackers, and salami among others. Mindfully removing sweets, fried foods, and carbs from her diet, Lee always sets her sights on gold. Hopefully, she will do the same at the Paris Olympics.
