So has Noah Lyles finally had enough of his squabble with the NBA folks? After the now-infamous “world champions of what?” dig at basketball players of the USA last year, the World’s Fastest Man has faced the music for quite a long time. And now, it seems like he’s up for waving the white flag to let bygones be bygones.
In his latest Instagram story, the 2024 Olympic gold medalist shared snippets from the Kia Center in Orlando, Florida. In a preseason match, the Orlando Magic hosts the Philadelphia 76ers, and Noah Lyles was soaking up the atmosphere in style. From the electrifying half-time show to the special gift Lyles and his fiancée, Junelle Bromfield received from the hosts, things looked exciting, and the Virginia native could hardly hold back his beaming smile.
Both the American and the Jamaican were given a couple of blue Orlando jerseys with their names written on the back. And that’s not all. The Magic’s mascot Stuff also went head-to-head with Noah Lyles in a dash across the basketball court. However, the folks over at Orlando seem to believe the race was tight and even enquired via an Instagram update about seemed to have won the battle. Nonetheless, it looked like both Lyles and Bromfield had a blast at the game, which the Orlando team won 114-99.

But while the sprinters were having a blast, fans couldn’t help but debate whether this was a positive move from Lyles to finally bury the hatchet that he’s been carrying around for so long. After his double gold-winning performance at the Budapest World Championships last year, Noah Lyles took a dig at the NBA for calling its winners World Champions. The remark gave way to a massive fiasco and fans from both sides jumped on the bandwagon to assert the superiority of their respective sports. Even the folks over at the NBA were divided about it.

While basketball icons like Kevin Durant slammed the Olympian, stars like Milwaukee Bucks’ Giannis Antetokounmpo on the other hand, noted their agreement with Lyles. With Team USA Basketball winning gold in Paris, the NBA even went on to social media to deliver a sneering response to Noah Lyles’ comment from last year.
However, Lyles managed to keep his calm and refrain from muddying the waters further. However, while his latest appearance at courtside could look like an attempt to forget the beef, one should also remember that Noah Lyles is a pro when it comes to mitigating negativity.
