On October 16, Italy announced that it would not hold all the competitions of the Winter Olympics in the country. The organizers have moved the winter sports of bobsled, luge, and skeleton due to pricing issues. The Italian government had decided to invest $53 million to rebuild the historic Eugenio Monti sliding track but soon realized that it could cost double the money the government was ready to invest.

Following this update, the Olympic Committee has advised the county not to reconstruct the historic track present in Cortina d’Ampezzo. In an interview with the Washington Post, Prince Albert II of Monaco, a professional bobsledder and a member of the IOC, stated, “I can only applaud the decision by our friends in Milano-Cortina not to go ahead with the reconstruction of the sliding center in Cortina.” Amid Prince Albert’s advice to find an existing venue to hold these games, Austria and Switzerland have volunteered their platforms for the event.

However, the Italian authorities, while highlighting the influence of the Olympics in the sports community, “are still evaluating all the possibilities.”
