Injuries and failures have always been part of the wrestling world. While some athletes struggle with overcoming their failures, others battle a tough fight with injuries. Along the same lines, Penn State Wrestling’s champion was injured way back in 2019 when he first witnessed a major drawback in his wrestling career. At that time, the wrestling sensation was just a few months away from the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

But competing on the Olympics mat six months after the ACL tear was of utmost risk. Therefore, the wrestler declared to withdraw from the upcoming Olympics that year. However, dropping off from the Olympics dream was something other than what the USA’s champion aimed at. 

Coming back on the wrestling mat

A recent Instagram post by Titan_Mercury was captioned as, “@babyflo_nico makes his long-awaited return to the mat at the 2023 Bill Farrell International this Saturday, November 18th.” The former U.S. Open Champion and National Team Member will once again compete on the international Sr. Level as he looks to earn another career title. Nico will wrestle on Day 2 of the tournament, which goes down on Nov 17-18th.

Recently, Nico Megaludis announced that he would return to the world wrestling mat to make a comeback. The wrestling sensation aims to achieve the Paris Olympics 2024 gold this year. Thus, he is preparing to clinch an Olympic spot by playing exceptionally well at the Olympic qualifiers. Consecutively, Nico will soon be participating in the 2023 Bill Farrell International Wrestling event to make a comeback. The national team member will be wrestling against the opponent in the 57 kg category on the second day of the beginning of the event.

In the showdown, Nico will be facing worthy competitors in the 57 kg category. These incredible wrestlers include some of the well-known names, such as Spencer Lee and Daniel DeShazer; apart from the participation of renowned faces, Bill Farrell will also feature the comeback of multiple age-group and NCAA champions competing in different weight categories. Amongst these wrestlers are Joey Lavallee, competing in 74kg, Evan Wick and Trent Hidlay in 86 kg, and Jordan Wood, battling in the 125 kg weight category. 

The major thrill at the Upcoming Bill Farrell is to not only a ton of athletes who had a caliber to perform on world mat but also those overcoming serious injuries such as Nico Megaludiss. But what happened to the wrestling legend, Nico Megaludius, that forced him to withdraw from the championships?  

What forced Nick to drop from wrestling?

Nico Megaludis has been a remarkable wrestler competing on the international stage, battling in Turkey, Belarus, Spain, France, Ukraine, Azerbaijan, and other places. Unfortunately, his wrestling career witnessed a major drop back in 20219. In recent years, Megaludis was plagued because of injuries. In 2019, Nico tore his ACL while competing in the championship.

This led him to withdraw from the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. In an exclusive interview with westmorelandsports.com, Nico said, “I love being able to go to different countries and see how they live…2020 was supposed to be the Olympic year, and the trials were in April, so I had to take a little bit of a risk kind of and come back within six, seven months.”

Although Nico cannot attend the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, he aims to achieve an Olympic spot this year. Making a comeback on the world mat is not as easy as it is. Instead, it requires a lot of hard work, patience, and consistency to come up on the same level as the opponents in the championship. Will Nico be able to perform well in the ongoing tournament?
