On December 10, 2023, the Penn State NLWC packs appeared in yet another header after humbling Lehigh the previous week. The famed NLWC lineup showcased nine wrestling phenoms in the weight categories that evening. For the head coach, Cael Sanderson, winning remained the only option. However, in the crowd of bigwigs, a certain prodigy stood to the occasion and attracted the focus of attention. His grappling inflicted defeat on his former high schoolmate without a flinch.

That was enough to seal the deal for him. Moreover, his resume flaunted many of such accomplishments, despite being a new entry into freshman wrestling.

A consistent performance on and off NLWC color might award Braeden Davis a prior entry into the college, losing the Redshirt tag. Eventually, the X-handle of Penn State/ NLWC Fan attested to that news by posting an update on it.

The post exhibited the annual achievements of wrestling whizz Braeden Davis with a steady caption, “Getting a Little Better Everyday”. The major appearances may have not come to highlight Davis’ name as his emergence in the NLWC pack happened this year only.

But that X-post assembled, “The TrFR is 8-0 w/6 Bonus Wins & could lose his Redshirt soon”. The achievements might feel sweeter as the freshman’s 125 category already holds wrestling wunderkinds like Robert Howard and Gary Steen.

Braeden Davis’ resilience was staunchly visible in his high school time in Belleville, Michigan. He earned four state championship titles. His title runs matched perfectly with his team championship in Dundee. After achieving such highs, he shifted to Penn State this year to continue his blitzkrieg. Davis’ chance of earning major calls intensified after a series of events this year.

Some unusual turns

NLWC took some records to cleaners while outpacing Hofstra on December 10. Penn State remained at the top in the NWCA Coaches Poll, well above the nearby follower, N. C. State. But the recent run of Missouri, standing in third place, may have earned certain issues for the Penn State NLWC. Moreover, the untimely loss of the ranked wrestler Shayne Van Ness to injury muddied the water for the program. In this regard, Braeden Davis’ chance of losing Redshirt intensified on its course. His participation on December 10 was proof of it.

However, on that day, for him, the Intermat ranking didn’t come. But as per discussion, the January 5 match against Oregon State might come as a definite chance for Braeden Davis to enter into the ranking. Such a series of happenings might reach the NLWC Redshirt freshman to the absolute entry point of major leagues.
