Is Kyle Dake's success on the mat a result of his strong partnership with his wife, Megan?

After serving sixteen years in wrestling, Kyle Dake can proudly say that he found his best teacher in his late father, Doug, while the best dietician in his mom, Jodi. However, the person who played both these roles in his life in some capacity has been his wife, Megan Dake. In Megan, he finds the best confidane after all his experiences with punches and holdings on the mat. This has been the Olympian’s lifestyle trend for not only the last few years but for more than a decade, especially since those chilly evenings in New York in 2007-08. During that initial period, Kyle used to have a less bruised face.

Their love story is a duality of sorts, a happy accident rather than ensures his professional overtures are intact along with his personal feats. But he bleeds only in front of his love. Now, as Kyle Dake is on his way to Paris to make his second Olympic appearance, let’s relive his bond with Megan.

Hardly any American wrestling fanatic could forget a weeping Kyle Dake this year after securing his Paris Olympics ticket in the 74-kg freestyle category. Those tears told many stories of him, but the prominent one was the grief over his father’s demise, who couldn’t witness his son climb to the Olympic ladder once again. But simultaneously it was also the expression of emotional self who only found shore to a woman called Megan Dake. A part of it can be cherished in Kyle Dake’s comment made to the Ithaca journal, a few months before his Tokyo Olympics endeavor. At that moment, he said, “She keeps me from floating away into these obscure ideas and not really staying focused on the task at hand. She helps a ton. I lean on her a lot.” However, the reason behind it is not just for being a couple.

In the same interview, the four-time NCAA wrestling champion spoke about how Megan became the rock behind him. She could play the role perfectly because she guarded Kyle in the face of many storms in his life. In fact, the first time Kyle gave a pose with his future wife, they were in their first grade.

That much cherished- bond led him to say, “She’s been there the whole time and really helped me accomplish my goals.” Kyle Dake had a better way to call it – a balloon and a rock where the rock Megan always keeps his drifting self grounded. Now, he has felt the need to be more grounded because of his daughters.

Being a father of two helped the Olympian remain more focused

After marrying Megan in December 2016, Kyle Dake decided to settle near his father’s house. Such a decision backed him greatly in the Tokyo Olympics when his entire family gathered in his father’s house to cheer him up virtually. Meanwhile, his little daughters, EllaJo and Emilia, enjoyed the atmosphere and received parental love from everyone present in the scene. Later, Kyle thanked everyone for that support and love, but a special note was given from him to his daughters to make him more focused.

Explaining about focus, Kyle Dake stated that after their daughters’ birth, he could avoid a lot of distractions. The result was stunning as he mentioned, “It really has sharpened me and made me focus more on the task at hand rather than worrying about business or camps or clinics or coaching, whatever else.” His professional career also received a boom.

In the Tokyo Olympics, Kyle Dake earned the bronze medal in the 74-kg weight bracket. The year also ended on a memorable note for him, as in the same weight bracket he earned his World Wrestling Championship title. In 2022, he defended that title successfully. Now, he has a son paired with his daughters to motivate him. Would that extra voice in the camp push him to go for gold? Well, let’s wait for a few more weeks.
