University of Maryland’s wrestling team has been among the top contenders in the Big Ten Wrestling Championships. Though the team faced a significant upset in the last match against the No. 18th Pittsburgh Wrestling team, as Maryland was defeated by a 16-21 score, the Terrapins are all set to make a comeback.

The major reason for the attraction is not a recent win against a ranked opponent but a jaw-dropping move by Smith at the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational. Interestingly, the wrestler showcased his prowess on the court and secured an honour for his move.

The recent tweet by Flowrestling was captioned, “Jaxon Smith’s wrist duck was so NASTY that it earned the Adidas takedown of the week.” Smith grabbed the honor with his impressive performance at the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational semifinal match. Soon after entering the CKLV wrestling mat, Smith started dominating the top-seeded team’s third-ranked wrestler, Tanner Sloan.

At first, Jaxon started to manipulate the opponent wrestler, Tanner Sloan, with a series of moments to confuse. Within a fraction of a second when Jaxon felt the right moment to take down, he immediately gained control over Tanner and gained an advantageous position to secure a takedown, also known as wrist duck.
Consequently, Jaxon not only showcased prowess with enthralling wrestling moves but also accumulated two points for an incredible takedown. Thus, Adidas decided to acknowledge the exceptional game of Jaxon this week. Eventually, Jaxon Smith got the golden opportunity to another feather of accolade to his cap with the Adidas Takedown of the Week honor. With this, he made it to the final showdown against NC State’s second-seeded and fifth-ranked Trent Hidlay. Smith battled hard, but finished second with a score of 5-2. However, this is not the end of Jaxon Smith’s performance this season; this is just preparation for the upcoming NCAA Tournament finals.

After flaunting his staunch performances he bagged the 3rd place in 2023 Big Ten Championships by trouncing fifth-seeded Jacob Warner of Iowa and third-seeded Zac Braunagel of Illinois to earn the bronze. With this, he became the 2023 NCAA Championship Quarterfinalist, pinning 6th-seed Issac Trumble to make it to the quarterfinals.
And now, with his incredible routines on the mat at the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational, Jaxon has managed to grab the attention of spectators. In addition to the latest Adidas Takedown of the Week honor, Jaxon is also an NCAA Finalist.
