A Mexican-American freestyle wrestler, he lately declared that he is an Olympian, in his official X account on the 2nd of March 2024. Competing in the 57kg weight category, the 2x NCAA National Champion has won several international tournaments before. However, this one is going to be his special. In rivalry with Iowa Hawkeyes star Spencer Lee on the NCAA mats, this year marked the entry of both the freestyle wrestlers in the Pan Am Championship in the 57kg weight category.

Lee’s potential matchup with the recently qualified Paris Olympics 2024, has always been in the news. Though for some unknown reasons this year, the freestyle modality wrestler did not show up for the 2024 Pan Am Championship, he still secured his Paris ticket through the Pan American Olympic Qualifier.

Spencer Lee’s rival classifies to the Paris Olympics 2024

Wrestling in the NCAA in the US for the past few years, the fresh qualifier for the Paris Olympics 2024 in the French capital, is RBY – Roman Bravo-Young. He recently announced in the official account of the freestyle wrestler on X, the declaration read, “I’m an Olympian.” Defeating Oscar Tigreros of Colombia by a huge 14-4, the NCAA wrestler has obtained his ticket to the Paris Olympics 2024 in the 57kg category in freestyle modality.

A star on Penn State wrestling’s roster for the last three years at 133 pounds, Roman Bravo-Young (RBY) would chase the Olympic glory in the City of Lights in the Champ de Mars Arena. However, the fans have yet to witness his much-anticipated match-up against Spencer Lee. Last year, rumors were flying that Iowa’s Spencer Lee may move up a weight class to take on the Nittany Lion. RBY also did his bit to raise the heat.

Quoted just in last year’s beginning ahead of the potential bout between the two, RBY had said, “I’m all about wrestling the best… I’ve got nothing to lose against him (Spencer Lee). (Lee) wants to wrestle, I’ll wrestle. I could care less.” Nevertheless, the then, Spencer Lee’s rival has of late, advanced closer to the 2024 Summer Olympics. Interestingly, the Mexican-American freestyle/folk-style wrestler has always been expressive of respecting his roots, and the country in which he belongs.

Invincible background of the 2x NCAA champion

Admitting his upcoming wrestle representing his origin, Mexico, Roman Bravo-Young, is glad to inform FloWrestling of his decision. Last year, he stated, “I’m honored to represent the country my great grandparents and grandparents come from.” After his submission of official transfer to the UWW, Roman Bravo-Young has willingly been representing his home country, Mexico in the present year.

Young has accumulated impressive freestyle credentials by winning Fargo titles in the years 2014 and 2015. He is a two-time NCAA champion in the years 2021 and 2022. It remains to be seen how he etches his footprints at the international level after dominating the domestic scenario.
