Does Bo Nickal's rise in MMA prove he's the next big thing in combat sports?

“Bo’s amazing, and I wouldn’t be where I am without Bo.” Those lines came from David Taylor after confirming his berth in the 86-kilogram bracket for the Tokyo Olympics. But he earned his ticket for the grandest contest after paying a heavy price. In the US Olympic wrestling trials final, he had to subdue Bo Nickal, his close pal, in the Penn State NLWC. The experience wasn’t a cakewalk for Taylor. Reason? Apart from sharing a bond, Nickal used to be a phenomenal wrestler. Before reaching the trials’ final, he was on the verge of touching Taylor’s 45-match unbeaten streak. But the back-to-back defeats in the 3-match final changed things for Nickal.

After facing a loss to David Taylor, Nickal moved to mixed martial arts, and soon he reigned the territory. That regime continues. And because of having such diverse talents, Nickal has earned a huge certificate from none other than the ex-POTUS Donald Trump.

28-year-old Bo Nickal is on his way to return to action at UFC 309 against Paul Craig. The fight scheduled for November 17 has already garnered interest among the fans, as Nickal will be entering with an impressive 6-0-0 record. An enviable feat among mixed martial artists! And it also makes Donald Trump his fan. In a recently aired episode of Joe Rogan’s podcast, the former POTUS explained himself as “a tougher guy.” But with that, he didn’t forget to take Bo Nickal’s name as an inspiration for him in making him “tougher.” “I think he’s terrific,” Trump continued to add. Meanwhile, Rogan nodded to his comment, showing his agreement. But that’s not all. The ex-PM knew a few more things regarding his favorite fighter.

In the conversation with Rogan, Donald Trump especially mentioned Bo’s wrestling stint in college. “He was almost like undefeated in college,” the 79-year-old said in the podcast. That depicts Nickal’s wrestling supremacy during his tenure at Penn State University. This supremacy displays him as someone who grabbed six titles in his collegiate career by overpowering opponents in both NCAA Division 1 and the Big Ten Championships. In the 2021 Olympic wrestling trial final, he had to digest the thumping loss to David Taylor.

But ultimately, Taylor won the gold medal in the 86-kg weight bracket in Tokyo. The loss to Taylor disrupted Nickal’s dream to compete in the Olympics. But the words from the Olympic champion came as flowers for him. Now, three years later, his fans, including Donald Trump, still remember those brave performances. However, this is not the first time he displayed his fandom for the Colorado native fighter.

Bo Nickal considers the EX-POTUS someone ‘down to earth’

Donald Trump had the chance to be a guest on a show presented by someone from the combat sports industry prior to his appearance on Joe Rogan’s podcast. It was Logan Paul’s podcast. There as well, Trump demonstrated his appreciation for Bo Nickal while praising the UFC. Adorning Nickal with titles like “phenomenal fighter” and “great,” he laid out, “There’s somebody named Bo Nickal, who I think is going to be great.” The prediction didn’t fall short, as Nickal is still maintaining his undefeated run in the MMA. However, the former Penn State wrestler did not miss the praise.

In the podcast, Nickal claimed, “He’s [Donald Trump] super down to earth. Considering out of the 8 billion people in the world right now, he’s the most famous, like, incredibly down to earth, considering that.” That speaks a lot of things regarding the mutual respect both Trump and Nickal hold for each other. However, Trump is now looking forward to Nickal’s UFC 309 game in November as his fan. Will Nickal claim the belt that day as per his fans’ expectations? What do you think?
